2555 running cold

Did it extend his regen times, or the time between his regens? I haven't seen his videos about low or no cab heat, just his slipping out of gear ones.

I too worry that the reason the temp is set so low is an emissions related reason. However, we don't know since Mahindra corporate isn't the best communicator.

Sorry about that. It extended his time between regens. I think it was early on in his post about his tractor. I can't find in his thread where he talks about the regens , it's 65 pages long. But here is his comment on putting in a 185 deg F thermostat

Are we certain that the engine is actually running cold, when the radiator 'feels cold'?
Is it possible that the engine is running it's proper temperature, and does not need to cool off by using the radiator? And, thereby changing the thermostat will 'mess up' something?

Like I has said earlier in the post.... I did some wood chipping with my WoodMaxx 9900 and I'll have the motor at PTO speed for 30 to 45 minutes, the temp gauge will say normal but the heater is still blowing cold air and I can hold my hand on the engine block and not have a problem keeping it there, the only place were its hot is the exhaust.

I just got off the phone with Mahindra Corporate office customer service and asked about this problem. She said she was going to have the regional service rep call me and see what can be done to resolve the problem. I did tell her that I'm not the only person with this problem.

On a side note I still have not heard anything from my dealer after 3 calls to him on this problem.

I had a very informative and enjoyable conversation with the North-East Regional Service Rep today. I placed a call to the customer service department at Mahindra corporate office yesterday and explained that my dealer was not forthcoming with a response to my questions and problems. I was told the the Service rep would be contacting me.

When he called I explained the cold running engine and no heat problem. He informed me that there are 3 issues with Tier-4 engines running cold and the heater issue on 2555's that Mahindra is aware of and that they are working on solutions.

I will try to explain based on my understanding.

1. Mahindra is waiting on the EPA on approving and updated software version for Tier -4 ECU's to resolve the puffs of smoke and uneven running when cold..

2. Mahindra has found additional problems with 2555 and 2565 engines running cold. The problem is the by-pass hose from the radiator to the engine that by-passes the thermostat is to big. This is allowing to much coolant to by-pay the thermostat and prevents the motor from warming up and thus never reaching normal operating temperature. The engine is running as if it has no thermostat at all. Solution: New much smaller hoses for the by-pass.

3. On the new Tier-4 tractors with cabs, the heater hoses that were installed by the factory are to flexible and are kinking where the hoses enter and exit the cab frame on the way to the heater. Plus there is an issue with a valve in the roof of the cab that is also affecting the flow, the design is not allowing the air to be pushed out of the heater lines, thus no water flow. Solution: is new hoses, replace valve, and vacuum the lines to purge air from the hoses.

The service reps are waiting on Mahindra to release new part numbers for all the parts needed to fix these problems. He says that he expects the new part numbers to be available sometime in the next two weeks. He also said this will not be a recall to repair, but a notice and training will be provided to all the dealers. When a customer identifies the cold running engine puffing smoke or no cab heat the dealership can order the parts and provide the fix to owners at no charge.

I hope this helps those of you that have been wondering if there will ever be a fix for these issues.

Great info! Glad they were forthcoming with info, and are actively trying to fix things. Dealing with the EPA is probably a nightmare right now and very slow.

It's nice to hear that issues have been identified and, though not be issued as a recall, the fixes should be available to owners at minimal to no cost depending on dealer arrangements.

It seems that Mahindra did not test these new engine design very well. Probably were in too much of a rush. Tier IV engines should never have any smoke come out the exhaust.

I have been watching this post with some interest as I went round and round with my first Diesel (Chevy Duramax) that I thought ran too cold.

The factory recognizing the issue is huge and provides some hope. However for those who are impatient and or cold now with plowing season upon us I have a few peanut gallery thoughts-

The oversized bypass can be overcome with some type of restricter. Either put an inline thermostat in the bypass or make a restricter with some brass barbed fittings and a plug that is drilled to an appropriate size to allow but limit for proper flow.

The other items seem to be an inspection issue. It should be easy enough to visualize for kinks etc.

2555. 18* outside. Full rpm with pto running for about 20 mins. I don't know why the phone flips the pic?

Possible hose constrictor- Two flat bars, drilled with two bolts with nuts installed (sort of like a u-bolt)- adjust to where the engine runs warmer? Would that work?

I think I'll wait till the new parts list is available and have the dealer install the new hoses.....
