2555 running cold

I've seen a significant improvement in the engine temperature now that I have added the airflow limiters in front of both radiators... The engine warms up much faster but it don't seem to be over heating any. The real test is going to be when the temperature drops to single digits and below this winter.

is your cab heater making heat now?

both Rads??

one is an engine coolant heat exchanger. What is the other one?

Sorry, got it. I would be careful with the hydraulics cooler, especially if you tarp the engine bay.

I just put my piece of cardboard in with no ties or anything. It stays. My cardboard is not really adequate in very cold weather. I need to make tarps too. My tractor does make cab heat though...

Some folks jut remove their fan when it real cold, just have to be smart about it... whatever works for you. I like to keep some airflow past the intercooler, so I just use a 12" hole cover for my Dodge Cummins. You have to work the motor to make heat.

Holeycow.... yes, I did put a board in front of the hydraulic and engine coolent radiators but I put a 7 inch hole in the center of both boards. I plan to watch them very close to make sure I haven't created a situation that will result in hydraulic overheating.

The cab heater is now blowing warm air....not hot air but at least it's not like having the air conditioner on.

I'm still thinking of making some sort of engine side skirts that I can use this winter when the temperatures get down in the teens and below.

Glad you're getting somewhere

Well I called my dealer two days ago and asked for information on the latest ECU software version but I haven't heard anything back yet. That is kinda typical for my dealership it takes 2 or 3 calls to get any information and then I wounder if the answer they give is accurate.

I may just have to make some kind of insulated side panel covering to help in keeping the engine temperature up.

If I need my JD 4410 to run warmer I just cut open a garbage bag and hang it over the front of the tractor so the the airflow is blocked off. It's easy to get the motor warm then. If I need more cooling then I just fold some of the bag under itself. Easy quick and cheap.

If you don't have an infrared thermometer then I've found that if you can hold your bare palm on a hydraulic line or radiator hose for a few seconds then temp is around 130 - 140 F. That's an ok temp for hydraulics but you want your engine to be at least 180 F.

I ran my 2555 this past weekend for 2 hours at PTO speed powering my wood chipper. When I got done I idled the engine down for about 2 or 3 minutes then turned it off. Right away I opened the hood, removed the side panel and put my hand on the radiator... it was cold, I could have left my hand there indefinably, all the hoses, for both the coolant and hydraulics were cold, not cold like over night cold, but not warm either.

I did a little research on this since I'm going to be using my tractor for snow removal. It has a 155 deg thermostat in it from the factory. The tractor won't get much warmer than that unless it fails closed. Seems like a design flaw from the factory. Mahindra spent millions (billions?) of $$$$$ to develop the mCRD just to possibly overlook this one crucial part?

My 2555HST service manual states that the thermostat is designed to open up at 72C, about 160F. It also states that overcooling can be caused by ' Excessive low atmospheric temperature ', and can be cured by ' Decrease radiator working area by radiator masking '. As a side note, you have to remember that the heater core in the roof of the cab is pretty large and acts as a secondary radiator [ or heat sink ]. Especially if the two blower motors are running, that's probably more air movement over the heater core than your average vehicle. I am not saying that is the cause, you just have to remember that thing is taking heat away from the motor, too. The heat that a motor makes is actually waste heat. And, though the thing usually runs better at a certain temp, the motor making too much heat is not good either. Again, not condoning the heat problem... Someday, I am going to have enough snow to get mine out and work it.
