JD 2320
Hello out there -
Only have a couple of hours on my new 2320 and I have two issues that I would like opinions on. First of all I haven't had the opportunity to use the blower post storm. My first concern is with the headlights. While using the blower will the use of the headlights give me optimum lighting or should I mount a secondary light on the ROPS?
Secondly, I was surprised that the 2320 did not have a tool box of any size. Before I go ahead and fabricate my own, has anyone purchased an aftermarket box or used a box from some other model?
Thanks,
EJ

EJ,

First of all, welcome to TBN and congratulations on the new JD 2320. It sounds like you are talking about a front mounted blower for your tractor, but it doesn't matter really. I think you'll find that whatever implement you have mounted on the front of your rig, the implement will be in the way of the lights at some point and you will see lots of shadows and not much of what you actually want to see. I think you'll find responses to your question will almost universally be that you'll find that you want additional lighting....probably on the ROPS bar and you'll also find that you will want a light facing to the rear of the tractor also. There are many threads on the topic and how to mount them, what size alternator you should have to run the number of lights you intend to use, the best and safest switch to use, the use of flood or trapezoid lights, etc. You have come to the right forum and will have all of your questions answered in a short time...and by people who own the same tractor you do. I own a BX 1800 and the very first week I had it, I mounted two spots on the ROPS facing forward and a flood light facing to the rear. Anyway, have fun with your new rig and don't be too anxious for that snow, the novelty wears off after about 160inches, ha! If you don't have a cab, invest in ski goggles that don't fog up and a good hooded snowmobile suit. Dyer, retired

Don't know about the blower, but just the FEL bucket will block the head lights.

I made two tool boxes using ammo boxes bought locally. I've got a smaller one off to my right grip handle for gloves and the mail when I use the tractor to motor down to the mail box, and a larger one just behind the seat for chains, adjustable wrench, and a hammer. They came out great and I use them all the time.

EJ,

I meant to attach a picture of my rig and the goggles and snowsuit I was eluding to. You'll see the ROPS mounted lights I have on mine. I mounted them on top because when underneath, my head cast the shadow and the lights felt like they were burning holes in my hood. I barely have clearance to get into my garage, but the lights will fold forward if they hit anything anyway. Dyer, retired

160 inches! Boy the locals go nuts when we get 1.6 inches! Me, I just sit back and enjoy.

That's what they are telling us we got in Central Maine...I think it's pretty accurate for where I am. I seem to be on that side of the line that when they predict 6 to 10 inches, we get the 10. My home town of Caribou, on the Northern border of Canada, broke their record of 180 inches just last week. I think they are up to 184 for the year. I am fine with blowing the snow and playing with the tractor, but it's the shoveling the roofs, and decks that snaps the fun out of it all. Dyer, retired

Thanks, Before the 2320 I had a B7300 with rear blower. I live not too far from Lake Placid NY. We get plenty of snow. In fact, from the house to the mailbox - approx. 2700 feet. Plus, I ALREADY HAVE goggles and a snowmobile suit. My wife asked if I thought I needed a cab. Not yet!! I love the outside.

I like the outside much better too, when bundled up. You probably get more snow than we do, so I'm not telling you anything, but I've found that it never matters which way you point the chute, which way the wind is blowing...if at all, the snow will somehow swirl around and hit you in the face. Have fun. Dyer, retired

I have a tool belt positioned on the left side FEL tower with a slew of tools in the belt pockets; they're VERY convenient to get to. Have another soft briefcase that is fitted onto the top of the radiator guard that I keep a couple tools in.
