Someone told you, but did they look at the tractor? Do you have a good amount of pedal on that side to? Is it moving the lever on the axle that operates the brake? I personally don't believe its brake dust, I guess it could be, but it would seem unlikely.

Did you check the linkage? Maybe something has come loose/broken? I cleaned the brakes on one of my tractors last fall, not a major job, took me like an afternoon. But, as Dick has said, I kinda doubt it's brake dust buildup...

Dick, is that your new green yanmar? Congrats!!

dick , Did you trade your yanmar for that deer in your picture? Is that deer a larger tractor than the yanmar you had ?

Yes, I traded for the Deere. It is almost the same size, the 1700 they say is 20.4 hp the Deere is 20 hp. And they weigh just about the same to. But with 4wd and R4 tires, it will out pull the Yanmar by a lot. The tires must be a foot wide. It really pulls the gravel up my hill, that the Yanmar with the narrow tires would just spin. It had the horse power, but not the tires or 4wd. So far I'm very happy with the trade, of course it cost me some money, but oh well you can't take it with you.

Steve, most of the time the trouble that you are having is caused by the camshaft that goes through the brake cover to operate the brakes. The camshaft becomes frozen, usualy from lack of use. Remove the brake cover and spray some good penetrating oil on the shaft and let it run between the shaft and cover. Let it sit for a while and then start moving the shaft back and forth until it gets freed up. The brake shoes will be attached to the cover when you take it off. This is a very common problem.

I guess you'll be going to the deer forum /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Is the deer new ? Did they take your yanmar in on trade ? From what I've heard ,I didn't think a deer dealer or any other would take a grey in on trade .

No its not new, its a 2001 a 4100 model. It has quite a few hours on it for the year it is, as the guy cleaned up, around the new houses they built. It has about 900 hours. I would only give me $1500 trade on a new Deere, but he wanted to sell this one, so he gave me $2500 on it. So I paid $6,000 and my tractor for it, it sold new for between $12,000 and $13,000 they tell me. With a 3 cyc, yanmar engine, I didn't see how I could go wrong. Its hydrostatic drive. I didn't think I would like that, with the pedals, but after using it grading my hill drive, its pretty nice.
