I'm trying to find a good place to tap switched power from.

I pulled off the "dash" and noticed that there are 2 connectors that are not connected. (both have orange with silver bands wires)
Also I've always wondered what the 2 wires near ROPES left rear is for? (If I short them it starts the engine...).

If you know a good place to tap switched power or have any idea what those connectors are for I would love to know.

Thanks!!

No idea, but plug in a meter and turn on lights, see what happens. My old JD 870 had a pair of wires on rear fender. These were prewired rear lights.

I found that the two wires on the ROPS show 12v when the ignition is off, no voltage when on.....

Well thats weird……i wonder what would require voltage when ignition is off! It would drain the battery

The weirdest part is that if you jumper them together it starts the tractor.....

Personally I just taped 12 volts at battery terminal, used inline fuse between battery and switch and from switch to whatever required power.... To much work trying to decipher wiring diagram in manual and adapting to existing stuff (opening loom and such)...

12v measured from one wire to the other, or each individually to ground?
Makes a difference

That's what I ended up doing. Gave it it's own little rocker switch.

One of the 2 will be 12v to ground. The wires are acting like a switch. Connect them and the tractor tries to start. But why? why bypass the key?
The guy I bought it from only use it for the bucket on the FEL. Never used the 3pt. The PTO was still covered and factory greased..... so he didn't use/request those wires.

Without seeing the schematic, I can only guess what’s going on , and that’s not really good troubleshooting.
Why are you connecting those 2 wires together? I would get a wiring schematic before you go further.
A lot of modern vehicle electronics use supplied +12v with switched negative for electronic circuits, instead of switched +, so you could inadvertently be connecting two different switching schemes.
May not be so with your tractor, but better to get a wiring diagram and know for sure.

My Massy 1540 owners manual includes electrical schematics. Is it not included in the 1739e manual?

I don't recall, I investigated this sometime back, couldn't figure out what it could be used for and haven't messed with it since.

Did a bit more investigation on the two wires behind the seat, figured it out, I think. According to the owners manual there are two 15 Amp fuses in the fuse block, one is for a work light the other is labeled outlet. Checking with a multimeter, one has power all the time the other only when the ignition key is on. I don't know which is worklight and which is outlet.
The owners manual is very minimalist, lots of pages of safety warnings,(don't attach implements with the PTO engaged, etc) not very much of the really useful stuff.
