cub cadet 1320 made in 1991 working condition 400 dollars I have 2 acre yard to mow. Is this a good purchase or is this going to be one nagging problem after another. My other option is to buy a new cheap tractor at sears for a little over a thousand. My yard is flat with no real obstacles. I want the cub cadet but im apprehensive about having a machine that is going to need to be fixed all the time

I've owned, and still do, a 1320 Hydro. No problems.
Mowing 1 1/2 acre, does a nice job.

This is a lawn tractor so if you can i would try to find a little history on it.What kind of lawn did it mow flat or hilly.With a garden tractor this would not bother me that much but i think it is important with a lawn tractor.was it used for snow removal? the snow blades can be hard on them.What kind of condition is it in?If it is clean and not all beat up a good chance who had it before took good care of it.Make sure you give it a test drive if there is a hill near by drive up it see how it reacts.When you start it make sure who has it didn't let it warm up before you got there.It will probably smoke a little on start up but if it clears up fairly quick i wouldn't worry.Look for the normal stuff like oil leaks and so on.Now this mower is over 20 years so there is a good chance you will need to stick some money into it sooner or later.Hopefully later.
If it were me i would look for a garden tractor.Because when you put some money into it, for example a starter you still have a machine with a heavy duty hydro front end and so on.Tankman has had great luck with his 1320 with anthing used it is a roll of the dice.
Sears...I think craftsman makes a ok lawn tractor but not sure how good and how long a $1000 one will last? if you buy new and if you can i would raise the budget.I think you will be a lot happier and money a head.
Also if you buy new i would buy from a dealer not box store.IMO this is important.I would look at john deere they have great customer service.Cub Cadet "dealer" that would be a good start also.

Still fond of my early tractor days, '32 Farmall (1st year with rubber tires), then many old Wheelhorse garden tractors.
Wheelhorse is now Toro and, I don't think (don't know) if they're as rugged as they once were.
