In addition to the valuable experience I have gained without experiencing it firsthand...I think of TBN as an extended family. I'm glad I was able to bring my wife to the one get-together I attended at Empire Farm Days, so she was able to see that there are real people at the other end of the Internet. I love all the different ideas people have - its amazing what is out there in this world and how inventive people are. I'm grateful for this forum for supporting all of this support. I hope it continues for a long time.. I wonder what it will look like 100 years from now.. www.spaceshipsbynet.com ?

I bought 24 acres in '99 and a tractor in '00 and immediately started making mistakes. Fortunately nothing serious. Found TBN and immediately began to learn what I had been doing wrong and what I had been doing right. And learned what to do in the future. Been a real blessing.

First and foremost, tbn is about information. I consider myself a smart guy complete with engineering degree from an Ivy League institution (my wife often says I'm too smart for my own good:eek: ). Anyway, my "intellegence" is dwarfed by the amount of information available on tbn. I'm currently in my company's six sigma expert (blackbelt) program. One of the principles of six sigma is turning data into information. A simple example - anybody can read specs of different tractors - 30HP, 2,000# etc. tbn turns that "data" into information - ie if you are going to primarily use the machine for mowing, go for high HP & low weight. If you are doing more ground engaging work, a heavier machine will perform better.

I recently took a seminar on social networing short definition - it's not what you know, it's who you know that matters - well I'm here to say that tbn is the best "who" I've found in the world. The knowledge base here goes far beyond tractors, I've personally received help on my various home improvement projects, HVAC, and even central vacuum attachments (thanks thrci). tbn has so many "subject matter experts" whether it be Madref on hydraulics, wharv on fencing/welding, jinman on class III boomers, 3RRL on extreme tractor mods, or Bird & Egon as general statesmen. I'm sure I've left out many more.

Once you've been here awhile you realize that tbn is a great community as well. Much more neighborly than my actual neighborhood. A couple years back I purchased a WW grinder chipper/shredder. I broke the chipping knives. The company has gone out of business. Being the engineer that I am, I sketched up a drawing of the knives & went to a couple local machine shops to have them fabricated. It was going to cost me more than I paid for the chipper to have them fabbed. Madref machined the parts for little more that the cost of the tool steel. Alan0043 heat treated them for free! The kicker, they weren't the only memebers offering to help me out. Thanks guys.

I know that I will never be able to give back as much as I have received, but I do my best. What goes around, comes around (literally). Recently a member who has the same model WW grinder chipper that I broke was looking for the operator's manual. I was able to scan mine & email it to him.

I was honored when I got a PM from Muhammad asking if I would help out as a moderator. I'm proud to say that 95% of what we do as moderators is "clerical" work - deleting a duplicate post, moving a thread to the proper forum etc.

TBN is the best "place" on the web period.

Tractorbynet. to me is tractor school. I've only been a member for a few months, but I have been reading the threads for 3 1/2 years and dreaming of owning a CUT. The dream has been fulfilled!

I can't begin to express how the net has directed me to the correct purchase, pricing, type and size of machine I need. Also care, maintenance and how to get a full loader bucket as a beginner along the right attachments.

Beyond this, I've received immediate response to my threads and enjoyed talking in the private post and feel like I've known person for a long time.

Disagreements are most entertaining!

TBN can be compared to the lunch crowd at my Flyfishing Shop I once owned. I had clients that were successful profesionals, trades people, fabricators, contractors, mail clerks, political activist, ditch diggers and a few who won the states "Biggest Liars Contest. It was pure entertainment and we all had one common activity we truly loved! :D

TBN is really fun and informative. It;s gotten so that everytime I sign on to the computer to read email I go to TBN immediately afterwards. I enjoy the discussion on the Kubota BX's and the rural living threads, they offer good advice from the folks who have been there, done that. Keep up the web site, it's the best one there is

I first found TBN shortly before buying a compact tractor. I appreciate the help the members here gave me when I bought (and sold, 3 months later) that tractor :D
I've now gone back to garden tractors :D

I've come across some real nice people on TBN, and email a couple of them regularly.
Most of all though, I cant count the hours I've spent on here entertaining myself looking at pictures of projects

Nearly 2 years I've been on here too

tbn is a good way to kill some time and read what others have to say about the fun and exciting world or tractors & tractor accessories (<- did that sound like hank hill)

TBN made me confident enough to buy my first tractor.
I have learned more than I could have hoped to about my tractor, and tractors in general - not to mention the other information only marginally tractor-related: Tree felling, pond building, etc.

Additionally, I have also found it to be one of the very few boards on the web that somehow manages to maintain a sense of decorum.
Most boards degenerate into name-calling, brand wars, and other nonsense.
While that happens here to a small degree, it's not a "problem".

Thanks.

I have been a short time member, only a two or three years. This forum has been many things over that time for me. A wonderful resource for solutions to problems, to ask for advice and opinions, to just read and laugh with someone, and many other things to me.

I feel that I have received a lot out of it, and I have added a little to it. Those more experienced than I help me, and I help those less experienced than me.

I work in the computer field full-time. I work a 70 acre farm in my spare time (what little there is). I cannot always get my seat time in. This forum is a very valuable resource, if not for anything else than a way to relax and get away from the daily job to dream about seat time on the tractor.

I had just purchased my first "mini farm" (5 acres) when I stumbled across TBN one during a busy day at work :D I had been toying with the idea of needing a tractor to mow grass and do other odd jobs. As a wheelchair user I didn't know if this was a possibility or not, but after reading some of the posts and getting educated on various tractors, I finally got up the nerve to head down to the local John Deere dealer and within a few minutes, rolled away with the keys to a brand new JD 2305...small enough for me to pull myself up onto yet powerful enough to do just about everything I need to do....including wiping out several fence posts with the FEL :p I don't post very often but rest assured I read just about every post from others! What a wealth of knowledge and opinions! Thanks TBN!

There are so many great parts to TBN;

Viewing other members projects taking shape.
Requesting help for various problems specific to your rig.
Asking questions about implements or techniques.
Price checking on the next toy you're thinking of buying.
Looking for sources for parts you're having trouble finding.
Getting some inside information from the many dealers that frequent the boards.
The overall spirit of the helpful people that are always available.

Post a problem at night, check back the next day for some really good and maybe some not so good solutions.

It's a great forum.

My wife and I are also new to both TractorByNet and hobby farming. These forums have been a true blessing! We stumbled across them as we reseached a tractor we were considering purchasing. Because of the forums, and the wonderful people here, we avoided making a costly mistake. We've also been able to save money (and stop pulling out our hair) with the advice on how to work on and maintain the equipment we already have. Now we wouldn't think of going anywhere else for news and advice! Keep up the good work and congratulations on having over 1,000,000 posts!

Take Care,
Mike

There are two things that have impressed me about TBN over the years. The good people on TBN who have such awesome experience, knowledge, and maturity. And TBN's psychic ability to pop up discussions about topics I just started to think about or study.

Just this week I ordered a book on heritage Southern apples along with another book on how to make cider. I get home and check TBN and a discussion showed up on....

Making cider. Which is the only thing I could think to do with the apples if I planted a few apple trees.

One night I was reading some discussions about the new Ford diesel trucks. The next morning a post shows up on TBN asking questions about the new truck which led to some very good information that was not on the other site.

TBN is pretty danged good about a whole bunch of different stuff.

Later,
Dan

TBN was one of the only forums with much information about Mahindra Tractors when I was in the market for a new tractor a few years ago.

Thanks to those who maintain this valuable resource.

Tractor By Net is the best tractor forum out there. I love the information interchange. Sure beats learning everything the hard way.

The opportunity to share with others, a common interest. People that would never meet, let alone tell each other about our conquests and blunders.

Educational, and very inspiriational,... (in a tractor sort of way).:D

What a great topic for my first post. I have been a lurker here for some time and find this site to be a great community of similar minded people willing to lend expertise and support to each other. This board has helped me to solve problems and make buying decisions for my iron addiction. I look here for interesting posts every day. Thanks TBN!
