round file handle worth more than spit?

I've gone back to using a round file in one of those flat, Oregon Tools guides. The problem with that setup is the wooden handles are less than useless... drawing the file back pulls the file out of the handle about every other time you pull on it.

any other single-file handles you've run into which really grip a round 5/32 or 3/16 file?

If you use a chain file correctly you will not have this problem. The file cuts in one direction only. Why do you apply and pressure on the back motion?

Sure. There's for sure no filing backwards - that would be counterproductive and ruin the chain; but the least grab on backward movement and the wooden handles loosen/wobble or the file slides out of the handle.

Just was wondering if any handles have a locking mechanism that would hold it secure and without wobble too.

a small dab of DUCO cement will cure the handle issue.

Put the file in a vice with the tang facing up. Heat the tang with a torch until it's red hot. Push the wooden handle down on the tang as far as it will go and give it a few light taps with a mallet.

Good luck getting it off when the file dulls.

I was wondering that about the Duco-method as well. one file, one handle. No problem!
