Remember the Cuyahoga river fires?

All the best,

Peter
Remember? We lived in a Cleveland suburb during that time. Dad being a firefighter had no interest in seeing the river burn. Jon

At camp yesterday. We are tried of these trees that were pulled down.

Neighbor collage gals yard. I was worried the 6x6 would struggle in this 3+ feet of snow but it did fine. Its psi is incredibly low.

Here's a beautiful look at (most of) the Mitten State from yesterday, 1/31! Note the ice cover across the Straits of Mackinac, Whitefish Bay, and along many of the lakeshores. Current Great Lakes ice cover is at 51%, which is close to 20% higher than average to start February. Image courtesy NASA Worldview. Its lightly snowing in the Kewee again today.

Glorious! Those old Snowcats back some great memories.

The ski jump, perhaps not so much. That is one tall jump! 😱😆

All the best,

Peter

Lake Ice update. Last time to camp, we could see open water in Kewee bay which make me think these ice maps are not all that inaccurate.
------------------------------------
LAKE SUPERIOR ICE UPDATE: The lake is sitting at 33% coverage today. But it peaked at about 47% a few days ago. Not bad!

Thanks for the pictures. I assume the students get some of that snow trucked in to build those statues? Jon

Jon, its largely trucked in. If you used snow from storage area's its dirty with sand and junk. Sculptures need very clean snow and I believe tech has specific snow harvesting area's. Maybe ball fields?

Loved all the snow sculptures. I used to do ice carvings, but it's been 15 or so years since I have. I always wanted to do a snow sculpture, tried where we live now, snow is too dry. With the drifts we get, I'd just have to go out back.

When they are making those sculptures, they have garden hoses running into them as they load snow and pack. Lots and lots of water is added.

Secrets revealed. Thanks. neighbor told me when he had a house on the property before we came to be, he would leave a hose drizzling in the winter, and it created an ice tower. Still hear from snowmobilers who rode the trail on the property that would stop and take pictures.
