The neighbor makes monthly 450 mile trips with his Lightning to visit his kids. He said he always takes a break half way through to rest and get a bite to eat. Says he stops at the same place each time and tops off the charge. It also has a 120v outlet in the bed that he says will run power tools. There was some other really cool features he was showing me but I can't remember what they were now. Neat truck but I would certainly never want one...
I think more trucks are getting plugs in the bed. I know they have them for Tacoma and Tundra trucks.

I think the difference is the wattage. Of course, it is using the mileage.

I'm imagining some guy heading out to camp. Plugs in tools and drains his battery to the point he can't get back.

Fire up a generator to charge it back up!

I've never owned one, but several friends had an ElCamino that suited their needs perfectly. I would expect that if you lived in a largish city, an electric one would work fine.

My son whom lives NY up by the border loves his. He first visited with a rental. A model 3 i think with the gull wing doors. Where as before I would scoff at the idea I was impressed.

He bought a used model 2 I think and came down to KY this past Oct. Again, I was impressed. He saved a lot of money over new by buying from Tesla.

I would not want one as I don't want the added expense of another vehicle. My one ton van while only getting 15mpg fills all of my wife's and my needs. It easily pulls 100 bales of hay home for our horses, gets us to our doctors, shopping and out for a bite to eat once in awhile. Sure, if we did not have the horses, we could get by. But it sucks putting my wife's wheelchair and a cooler or two in one.

Yeah, they're fast. So are sports cars. The problem is trucks need to be trucks and sports cars can be sports cars. If it's no good at being a truck, then it's not very useful.
Given that the majority of people that own trucks rarely if ever use their trucks as trucks I would say the EV truck works well.

Right up to point they need to use it to do truck things....
I can't tell you how many flat tires I have fixed on city trucks with 4 ply low profile tires after they hammer the gravel roads towing a trailer out here in the sticks....on Sundays where the nearest open shop is 60+ miles.

well this doesn't really surprise me but today Ford announced they are killing off their all electric F150.
going forward as they concluded all electric is a failed experiment?
I mean, it's hard to overlook a 19 BILLION dollar loss on Ford's EV program. 19 billion with a B.

And guess who subsidized those losses for Ford? Everyone else that bought a gasoline or diesel vehicle from them.

Jim Farley is a smart man. He probably didn't want to lean this heavily into EVs, but Biden admin was pushing hard. Jim has stated previously that he believes the EV market will end up somewhere around 5% of US market sales. Hardly the EV takeover that was constantly forecast for us even once it was obvious it would never happen.

I wonder how all the actual owners of these vehicles feel after hearing and reading about this announcement ? If I was one, I would be Pi$$ed ! How much more have their vehicles instantly depreciated, since even the dealers wouldn,t want them back on trade-ins for an ICE vehicle.

Park em now and they will be a collector car in 50-80 years and rare.....

When I see this happen, I thank God we still live in a somewhat free country where its citizens can vote both at a ballot box and with their wallets to get rid of such nonsense jammed down our throats.
As much criticism Capitalism and Freedom takes, it works better than any other system.

Tesla has been the most successful, but even they have now seen two years of decline

Their stock is nearing 1-year highs today.
The Robotaxi looks like it’s going to make it.

To be fair, Tesla stock is probably valued for much more than their cars
Yes, they are diversified, but some very successful big companies diversified in the past and cratered.
Pennsylvania Railroad
Westinghouse
for example

but.... the batteries will be so dead maybe nice to look at but never to roll down the road again. Cheers

I like my Fords a lot. Kinda saddened (but not at all surprised) the jokes of a few years ago are now becoming reality. The new F150 supposed to use a generator to make power for the battery to drive the wheels... kinda like this??

ps: a 6 year old Telsa 3 needs a replacement battery pac costs $33,000 in these parts plus labour and environmental disposal fees. A hard decision to either sell for scrap or put the battery in... hmmm...

Like I said rare and rare is worth fixing. Someone somewhere will figure out how to keep some of them nice/running and his heirs will have something.

So, what will a hybrid cost?

I mean, maybe I'm weird, but $80k plus for a vehicle seems like a luxury that the vast majority cannot afford.

The US consumer is getting buried in debt. The average car payment is ridiculous

The average new car cost is $50k and used sits at $30k, it's absolutely painful.

Someone who daily drives one probably can't afford to just park it.

I wouldn't be thrilled to buy a product, especially an automobile, and see it drop off the market soon after. I would presume a short production run equates to expensive parts.

UPS operates a fleet of large urban electric delivery trucks here… drivers I know like driving them and like not having to start the engine hundreds of times each day… plus they are quiet.

UPS isn’t known for foolish spending… they must have crunched the numbers and decided it’s viable.

I'm sure it is viable in certain situations. Just like several have stated for EV cars. EV Delivery vans in a nice mild climate in a city? Yeah, it is probably a perfect fit.
