Haydudes battery in the excavator is pretty obvious how the battery was installed at the factory if you look at the pictures carefully. During assembly the line starts with a battery and then they build the machine around it.

Thats the only explanation I would have, but that makes the battery like 15 years old.
Pretty rare for a 70HP outdoor stored machine with 2,500 hours on it to be on the original factory battery.
It’s still inexcusable to make the opening too small for the next guy.

Unless the original battery was just a bit smaller, some of the JIS batteries don't dross over real good to our sizes.

My new replacement battery was same width, length & height as the one I pulled out. The old one had no info on it. No group size, no CCA, no name brand.

It almost has to be the original battery was placed in the compartment (with too small of an opening), then the hood was bolted on over the battery compartment when the machine was assembled, as Dodge Man said.

Otherwise, there would be no way that battery could’ve gone into the rectangular hole.

I think the battery was 6&3/4” and the opening was 6&1/2”.

Just hard to believe the original battery lasted that many years on that size engine?

I bet the proper battery was supposed to be smaller, but Wacker Neuson ran out of them on the assy line and placed a larger than speced battery in there?

Well my recent purchase confirms that I have reached grumpy old man status;
Too many years of smoking and noxious fumes make for COPD, then bad knees and hip/back plus a bit of excess weight has me down to 100 foot walks then a rest and another 100 feet and repeat. I've skipped most ag shows and truck and tractor events for the last couple of years and with the County Fair coming up next week I'm tired of missing that, so I'll be riding till I get were I want to be then a bit of walking and resting and ride to the next barn.

Fancy electric mobility scooter..............................and a ramp equiped carrier for it.

I've had to remove the wheely bars from the rear end and now I'm waiting for the 4" drop extension for the hitch so that hopefully I'll be able to open my tailgate which hits when it still has a few inches to go down and the ramp will touch the ground. Then I've got new longer button head bolts with better washers and nyloks to replace the too short and chinsy cheap nyloks. Going with button heads to protect the tires while loading an unloading.

Thinking of that wheels of age cartoon that was posted the other day, looks like it may be close to the wheels ending.

Almost forgot. Not that it's truly something I bought quite yet, but on the 13th I ordered a Durango.

It was the first day the order banks opened for the now available 5.7 and AWD combined.

Not a lot to tell about; It's a mobility scooter XL-4L, haven't even been able to find a brand name. There are numerous one's with the same or similar model and spec's. I bought this one used.
As far as the "specs" for it,
it is a 60V drive system, with 5 20h 12V batteries wired in series.
either an 800 or 1000 watt motor depending on who you read,
front and rear drum brakes,
supposedly a 500 pound load capacity, (fortunately I'm quite a bit shy of that)
a so called 3 speed, which is actually just a voltage limiter to the motor, makes first speed almost useless unless on a flat level hard surface,
supposedly 15 mph topped out,
3.00-10 pneumatic tires (so hopefully good traction),
should climb a 20 degree grade (I'd be surprised),
weights close to 300 pounds (280),

I've already remove the wheely bar wheels, and had to access and change a bit of the battery wiring.
It worked when I checked it out and loaded on the trailer to bring home, when I got home it was completely dead. I had noticed it bounced pretty good in a couple of spots, it pulled the main battery feed off the battery terminal that goes to the main breaker (1/4" tabs on the battery) removed there wire and added a new longer wire and up and working.
We will see how it ends up working out, or if I end up getting rid of it.

Then the royal pain is transporting it;
A trailer is likely the easiest way to load and haul,
but often parking is a bit limited and a trailer makes that more difficult.
I bought a hitch mounted carrier.
Got it put together and mounted to my pickups hitch (what a cluster f--k)
It hits the tailgate before it's all the way down, would put a hell of a crease in that.
Then the ramp doesn't even reach the ground. My pickup is a 1500 RAM with no lift kit or anything.
So I've got a 4" dropped receiver extension, hopefully that will lower it enough to use the tailgate but not be so low it drags at times.
The carrier came with a license plate relocator bracket, hopefully the po-po don't fuss to much about the plate being obstructed. It would be a royal pain to have to switch the plates around when using the carrier.
I've ordered new button head bolts ( a bit longer also) and better nylok nuts, the button heads are to get the sharp headed hex bolts away from the tires sidewall.

Friday I called the Tire Rack, paid for the tires over the phone, drove in there Saturday morning, had them installed, and drove out $6 shy of $1000.

Wife and I had a conversation regarding how back when we were first married, we'd have to talk about and save up for a set of 4 tires for $250 and get nervous about having to spend that much. Now we don't think about stuff like that. We're fortunate.

Sounds like a real PIA. Maybe a used lift gate for the pickup is a better way to go?

Or a crane. My Ex-GF had a swinging crane mounted in her van for her mom. It was 12v powered and could lift an electric scooter then swing it into the van. This was a full size Ford van though.

The crane I have on my milling machine came from HF. It swings too but it's a manual crank and jack for the lift. I bet a 12v wench could be adapted to it. I cut about a foot out of vertical post so I could get it under the roof.

Wife and I had a conversation regarding how back when we were first married, we'd have to talk about and save up for a set of 4 tires for $250 and get nervous about having to spend that much. Now we don't think about stuff like that. We're fortunate.

That's about what I have in my new 20" mag wheels. The tires were cheaper at $185 each. There are custom mag wheels that can approach $10k EACH. I'm glad I'm not that invested in my old truck's looks.

The way I think about it, good tires are a great investment in our health and safety. Shorter stopping distance, better traction, better handling in emergency situations. Totally worth paying $1k/4 years or so.

Aquatic weed killer. Trying to get the pond somewhat usable. Water levels are down and I figured this was a good time to spray. Weedtrine-D I think is the name. Also got a two gal sprayer

If you have fish, be careful in how much of the pond weed you try to kill
at one time. Decaying organic material.....you don't want to cause a
fish kill.

That is an area we agree on, Lost a BIL due to worn tires. I will spend the money on them and mount and balance myself which over time offsets some of the new tire cost.

Yes, and that is also another fight; about 12" of nasty black organic/mud/roots, ect.
