Makita 18volt battery string review

/ Makita 18volt battery string review #24
I’ve got the 18v Makita string trimmer, blower, hedge trimmer, as well as the chainsaw and pole saw that take 2x 18v batteries. I am very satisfied with them all.

My thoughts on aftermarket batteries are tainted.
The only battery fires that I am aware of have been with aftermarket batteries. They also seem to have a shorter life and less than claimed capacity.
I still have and use the first 3.0 ah 18v LXT battery that came with impact gun I bought when the LXT line was introduced 20 years ago.

Everything I have here is 18volt. (y)
I have about 6 10 year makita 18v batteries that still are in service. But I expect you know that if you're already makita.
I have 2 - 71/4" skillsaws and a chainsaw that all take 2 of them, I'd estimate that if they offered a string trimmer (2x18v) in 36v it might be a better option but for a normal trim @ every or every other mowing 1 battery would be fine and a little water break/rest to grab another battery might not be a bad thing.

About a year ago, in a moment of weakness I ordered a pair of "counterfeit" batteries.
It was a self inflicted "I told you so"🤪 Junk!

I have a lot of the Makita 18v tools and I am happy with all of them except the little hand vacuum. I bought a second one when the first became completely useless and it was no better.

So the blower motor got weak? Quit?

I bought mine a hand full of years ago and it still works fine. But maybe I'm using mine differently than you. I only use it to pickup dead bugs, occasional floor sweepings and steel chips on the table from the cold-cut saw.

They both got weak and don't pick up much. Motor sounds OK. I called the factory repair depot and described the problem but didn't get a satisfactory answer other than to bring it in.

Can someone identify the bushy looking things I'm cutting in the top photo?
I have some vines that look like that here, but don't know what they are. What are they?

I just got my new Makita LXT 18V modular polesaw last week. The power head is called XUX02. Looks different from yours. The kit came with one 4AH battery, a charger, and 2 lever-lock implements: A polesaw and string trimmer. Everything seems very well made. It even has a metal bracket that protects the battery, which is very nice.

I tried out the polesaw, and it has 2 power levels. One is quite weak and stalls in the cut easily. The high level works pretty good, but clearly weaker than my old Greenworks 40V system.

That's what I wanted, so all is good so far. But the saw main power turns off whenever I release the hand grip, which is annoying. Are they all like that? Is this a feature?

Have not tried the trimmer yet. Gonna be hard to beat my old gasoline Makita trimmer.

I've got the Makita blower and have used it hard for four years. No problems. Also have a Makita string trimmer and it works fine and hardly weighs anything. Lots of battery time for average use. Both are excellent.
