Makita 18volt battery string review

My spouse needs a battery string trimmer to use at her dad's place. Do you have one you like? I see Makita makes them. I have battery's and extra chargers for use with them.

Don't have a Makita, but conceptually, that's the right call. I love my Echo 58v, but they switched the form factor to 56v, so it's an orphan. I just started switching to Dewalt because of the universal nature of their batteries and the wide variety to tools that I will actually use. Iirc, the Makita was more expensive and I couldn't see the value.

If you already have Makita batteries, this is a no-brainer.

Do you have existing battery operated tools if so I would get one the uses them as a first choice.

We have a RIDGID 18 volt trimmer for the above reasoning. While I don’t doubt it is NOT the best one it works good.

I still have some Makita gas powered equipment and it was always good equipment and would expect their battery equipment to be good as well.

The key is you already have the 18V batteries and charger which is usually the high added cost item.

Side note: Have you ever looked at CPC Outlet (www.cpcoutlets.com) as they sell new and refurbished equipment sometimes at a great price. They seem to have many Makita 18v systems. Some without the batteries and chargers. I have bought a few refurbished gas trimmers from them that were a great buy. One had a broken on/off switch that I called and they replaced it with no issue.

I have the M18 quick lock with pole saw and trimmer.
It works fine, needs lots of batteries to keep it going.
But I put lots of hours on it with no issues.
I love the quick load head on the Milwaukee trimmer, best I've used.

If you have makita batteries, it makes sense to buy the trimmer.
Reviews seem good.

I have the Makita XRU12. It is about 3 years old. It appears they are about the same. Mine is light weight and perfect for a weak old woman trimming around the patio. But if you need to cut the bluegrass down in the oversized dog pen in a timely matter, stick with the 36 volt one or gas.

I think the use of battery tools has gotten silly in some aspects but no regrets getting an EGO string trimmer. When it was new several years ago I could run it a half hour easily. It came with it's own battery and charger.

I have no experience with Mitika, but I do have a Ryobi 40V string trimmer and chain saw. They share two batteries. I really, really like both of them. Great tools. Pole saw is gonna be next purchase.

In general, Makita has a fairly good reputation in the cordless tool industry. If you already have other Makita tools & batteries, IMO, it's a no brainer to stick with that brand.

Even if the trimmer isn't the best on the market, as others have said, it's worth sacrificing a bit of quality for the convenience of being able to use the batteries & charger you already have.

Go with what you have batteries for already, I have Stihl AK series and Milwaukee M18 battery tools so that is what I purchase when looking for battery powered tools or yard equipment. Fewer batteries to keep up with and usually always one or two or more charged and ready to go.

I bet you will love it. I have had a battery trimmer and blower for at least 5 years. I use the heck out of them and have never regretted the purchase. You will find more uses for that blower than you think.

Nice, an 8 Ah battery. That'll do some work. Mine has only a 5 Ah battery.

After market company's do make larger yet battery's.
