Cataract surgery and Light Adjustable Lens

I noticed I couldn’t drive at nite.. so went to get new glasses.. to my surprise the Dr. said I had cataracts.!!
Who’da thunk it.?? That was the furthest thing from my mind..(61)
Wife was 58 when she had hers done.

Like Ultrarunner said, it's policy (liability risk) that you have a driver. Heck, at first they wanted me to stay in the office. I had errands to run, surgery place is 45 miles away from home and the closet actual city. I had about an hour to run to SAMs and stock up.

The follow up visit went well. The pressure in my left eye was a little high. They put some drops and that brought it down a bit.

The pressure was causing my vision to be blurry in that eye. It's still a little blurry, but that should clear up in a few more days.

I have another visit with my doctor scheduled in 3 weeks. She will use a laser to clean up some 'floaters' in that visit. She said that should also clear up some of the 'flair' I am having at night.

I don't think I will need reading glasses, since I chose the multifocal lenses. I'm not 100% happy with the results right now, but I think I will be in a few weeks.

Too early to tell… a few weeks is reasonable for everything to settle down as long as you are improving is what I hear all the time.

It's been almost 2 weeks since my second eye surgery. My vision is much better in most cases. I haven't really driven at night yet, but I do see a good bit of the 'flair' in the daytime. I see it when the sun reflects off a windshield or something like that. I also see it when a vehicle approaches with their headlights on. It's not a big problem in the daytime.

I also find that seeing my computer is blurry. It seems that the distance vision is really good, and the up close vision is pretty good, but the intermediate (like 3-4 feet) is blurry. I'm hoping that the laser treatment scheduled for July 9 will clear most of this up. But I'm not counting on that too much.

Overall, I feel I made the right decision, but I am not 100% satisfied with the results, at this point.

There is no pain or discomfort in my eyes. And now I can wear safety sunglasses again, which was one of my biggest goals for this. I will keep updating as time goes on.

My surgery consultation is this coming wendsday..
I want to thank everyone who shared their experiences with me/us..
One thing I can attest to is seeing many hesitant and or nervous patients here for the first eye back and anxious to get the second done asap.

I spoke with my brother-in-law today and he said his vision and 'floaters' cleared up a lot after the laser treatment. I go for my laser treatment in just over a week.

This was me!

It has been 4 years now and I couldn't be happier. Best vision I've had since I was a teenager!

So, apologies up front...I could Google this, but more interested in the real world responses from those who have experienced them...

What are the "before" symptoms from having cataracts? How does someone know if they need surgery other than a Doctor's diagnosis?
