Please explain this difference between diesel and gasoline engines

Modern two strokes , and four cycle as well, are all about HARMONICS.
That is how today's engines can achieve over unity volumetric filling.

I can not think of a single instance of a "modern" sleeve valve engine.
A once in a lifetime era I suppose.

Does anyone know of an example of a sleeve valve compression ignition engine?

Willys Knight. Designed because of the lack of the metal needed for regular valves. But I don’t the sealing characteristics were sufficient for CI.

Sorry, while the circumference of the earth about the equator is close to the circumference through the poles, it is only close.

Ball bearings are so precise their manufacturing technique was one of the most closely guarded secrets of WWII.

After the war when Japan was retooling and establishing their own metric interchangeability standards the sole exception was for ball bearings. They were allowed to purchase American tooling for ball bearing manufacture so they accepted SAE dimensions. Most Japanese cars and motorcycles used SAE sized ball and roller bearings the next 40 years.

I was surprised to find my 1976 Honda MR175 had inch-sized main crank bearings. Cost much less from the local bearing supply store than from the Honda dealer.
