This is probably a stupid question, but...... how do you unload a heavy implement from the truck? I do not have a front end loader.

Cub Cadet 7265
I have a cub cadet 7265 and I want to buy a tiller for it. But, the tillers weigh over 500 pounds and I see that I might have to unload it from the truck. Now when I bought the middle buster it was dead easy: they set it on my driveway, we screwed the shovel to the frame, attached it to the tractor, and simply put it away. However now I intend to buy a tiller and those suckers are heavy!!!!!!!

Hopefully you can wiggle it back and forth and get it near the tailgate, then stomp the gas and it will unload itself. :D

Do you have ramps, hopefully long ones? If you’re careful you might get it down a set of ramps.

Depending on how you are hauling it and it's width.
One way would be a chain fall or come along to a sturdy tree limb.
The other would be to back into a ditch to lower the truck or trailer to were the tractor can be connected to it.

Without a lift gate on the delivery truck, or if you are using a pickup or flatbed of your own. A pair of 2X12 x 12 or 14 feet long can serve as ramps to inch the tiller to the ground. Same as if it were a motorcycle, only there are no wheels on a tiller.

Just remember, Never lift more than 1/2 of anything heavy yourself!

Rent some scaffolding, built a A frame or if you have a anchor solid enough to use a chain fall.

An engine hoist would probably be capable of lifting it off but it would be better and safer to just pay for lift gate delivery.

If this is a commercial delivery, I doubt the driver will allow a questionable unloading procedure - nor should you expect any help from the driver. A lift gate truck would be easiest, or maybe find a neighbor with a loader and pallet forks.

Don't you have neighbors?
If one of my neighbors was unloading a tiller, and needed me to bring my tractor down to unload it, I would be happy to do so, especially if I were going to be putting in a garden, as I would probably bargain for a little "swapping of time and materials"!
Most likely won't take long, and since I don't do gardens, have my own tiller, then one of my neighbors would get off easy asking me to unload for him.
Beg or borrow an engine hoist, or worse case pick up one at Harbor Freight. However, make sure the delivering company does "Tailgate all loads" because if they don't tailgate the load, then a cherry picker (engine hoist) won't do you any good. Stipulate tailgate when you set up shipping and make sure it is on the BOL (bill of laden). Some companies absolutely will not tailgate a load. The company I work for does not tailgate anything, for any reason!

Look up, How to load truck bed backed into a dry ditch.

Just make certain the ditch you can drive the truck out of. I use my front ditch all the time. NO RAMPS ever needed.

IF you are worried the tail gate would be tooooo weak, then remove it when loading or unloading. (y)

Ramps, earthen dirt bank, several of your strong friends or one Anatoly.

I use to do engine swaps and I backed the pickup into the garage and had a come along attached to the header above… simple and worked.

Have it dropped off in the nearest town that has a fork lift... load it on your trailer.

The local delivery trucks from a freight terminal almost always have a lift gate.

The local delivery trucks from a freight terminal almost always have a lift gate.

Usually you have to pay extra for lift gate service. You do that when you purchase the implement. You can have them back up to a space on your driveway where they can put the implement. Then you can unpack it if it's in a crate or frame and hitch it to the tractor.

If you pick it up at the freight terminal they will load it into the back of your truck or onto a flat bed trailer.

I bought a 'used oil' furnace and a hoop house that were shipped from other states. They come to a Regional Delivery terminal via semi-truck and from there they arrived by box trucks equipped with lift gates. They were skidded on the the gates, lowered, and I took them away with loader forks. In your case, either drag it to the shop or uncrate it at the road and hook it up ! be sure to let us know how it worked out !

I've used my engine hoist to load/unload heavy items into the back of pickup trucks with no issues. Lift height would be my biggest concern, if the tiller is on a tall truck the engine hoist may not reach.

Let this be a cautionary tale...there is a reason loaders are standard on most new tractors nowadays.

Even the little backhoe on my BX23 had come in very handy for use as a sky hook… with weight in the loader if needed.

You need to get your plan, possibly from one of these suggestions. Then load it with unloading in mind.
