No. Because the same would be true for naturally aspirated trucks, too.
A 6cyl NA truck makes more torque at low RPM than a V-8
A 6cyl turbo diesel truck would make more torque at low RPM than a turbo diesel V-8.

Can’t wait for someone to sho a picture of a diesel v-8 with turbos. There’s like 10 of them left in the USA.

I thought NA trucks needed RPM to generate their torque?

Sorry, I had to.

NA gas V-8 trucks, yes. They take more RPM to generate torque.
Turbo gas trucks, in line 6 trucks, or diesel trucks (turbo or NA), not as much.

I don’t include diesel v-8 trucks because they have become irrelevant in the North American market for 98% of all applications.

I love a 50 year old V-8 diesel as much as anyone, but they are non existent in anything the average guy runs or operates in the USA

True, but ya gotta love a 903.

Hey you two, you both have tractors, are the inline or v's? I think that should answer a lot of the issues. Been proven time and again the you get the most power at a lower rpm from an inline, turbo or not.
I know the between my 6.7 diesel and my 5.9 gas trucks, I'd rather do the work with the 6.7. And that's towing the same exact load!

We went over this above already...

Like I said earlier...It's the turbos that do that.

Straight six's are more efficient about getting the exhaust to spool the turbo than a V8. The down side to that is a straight six is spooled out faster than a V8, meaning a straight 6 runs out of air well before a V8. The top end of a straight 6 is lower than a V8.

So, which one is better?

Also this is a debate the Hay man and I have had for years. He was chumming the waters for me.
No it’s the long stroke of the straight six including the naturally aspirated (non turbo/ no blower), but the turbo can increase it if the boost comes in at a low enough RPM.

Aren’t the Fords and GM diesels still V8’s with turbos? Unless your talking 18 wheelers I’d think they make up a significant amount if the market.

I think we just discovered off idle torque is a function of turbo efficiency through the RPM band.

You seem to be hung up on the turbo. Turbo chargers need RPM to produce airflow which in turn produces power. So no, the turbo has nothing to do with the fact that a diesel engine makes amazing torque just off idle. "Off idle" means what it says...just off idle, i.e. just above the point where the engine is idling. At those RPMs the turbo is doing very little.
