RTV OR COMPACT TRACTOR PLOW

Since you live with a lot of snow I'm surprised you are asking these questions.

Buy a much bigger cab tractor and add a double auger snow blower and keep it set up for snow clearing. Leave your winch on the CUT for bush work. Leave the RTV alone for play time.

OR buy a 1 ton PU truck with a plow. Keep the snowblower to dig out the truck.

Weight is your friend when plowing. Neither your RTV or CUT have that.

When I had a 7 ft plow on the front of my RTV900, I was pleasantly surprised how well it pushed heavy snow. At 2000 lbs, it has enough weight to do a bunch of work. Now, if only shifting F/R was better.......

Mine is almost new and same issue…

I have over a mile and a half of dirt road (some of it quite steep) and 80% of my plowing is done with my RTV X1100C and Boss V-Plow. I am constantly amazed at what this machine can do. I also have a F250 dually dump with a 9 foot Fisher plow and a Kubota B7800 with back blade and loader for pushing back banks. We get an average of 60-80 inches a year. In 26 years I have never been "snowed in". May happen this year now that I have said that!!

Shifting gets better with time. It took over a year and 100 hours to get my rtv1100c to shift smoothly, (95% of the time). I still wish it had the kubota treadle pedal.....

Hi all,

I am a glad owner of both a Kubota RTV 900 and L3800 and I live in Canada, just north of Maine’s border where there is plenty of snow.

I feel as if my snow removal setup is not optimal. Actually I always use the tractor to remove snow, either with the back snowblower and a back plow. The problem is I like to do plenty of logging in the winter so my logging winch has to be on the tractor and I am tired to remove it each time I need to take care of snow.

I have a 1500 feet road to be taken care of as well as the perimeter of our cottage, garage and sugarshack, you see the setup…

My question is should I go with a plow on the RTV or a quick attached front plow on the tractor FEL ??

Thank you very much
Invest in a RAMMY single stage commercial snow blower for your RTV.
There are lots of videos on youtube showing them clearing deep snows.

So I called dealer today to buy the K-Connect and blower for my RTV-X1100C.
If they buy my Boss vee plow off it.

If you already have a tractor with snow blower to handle the heavy snows, I'd go with the snow plow on the RTV900. You can use that on the lighter snows and get things done much more quickly than with your tractor and snow blower, then when the heavy stuff hits switch your tractor into snow removal mode.

I have a similar set up with my NH TC33D with rear snow blower (and occasionally use the FEL bucket). Once I got my Honda Pioneer 520 with a 66" KFI plow, I use that almost all the time. With a couple of 70# bags of sand in the bed, and some good "diamond pattern" square link chains, it's surprising what that little machine can do. (Were it not for the steep, icy section of my driveway, I might get away without the chains, but they definitely let me handle heavier snows than I would be able to otherwise.)

The square link chains are not as aggressive as the studded diamond pattern, but they are a definite step up from the ladder style chains. The square edges get more bite than regular round link chains, and the diamond pattern gives much better lateral traction. I plow about 1500 ft of mostly gravel driveway, but the loop up near the house is paved. The square link is much less likely to scratch or gouge pavement than the studded chains are

Dont waste your hard earned money on a 2 stage unit, The RAMMY Commercial 155 single stage snow thrower is lighter
and it has the large Briggs and Stratton snow engine with a V belt drive and slip clutch.

Might be a good option for some, but I have a machine with a PTO and hydraulics, so don't make sense running two engines on one machine to do the job.

You're in Canada. I think bigger is better. Here in NY, i live where we get lots of Lake effect snow. My little garden tractor and in some cases the neighbors Pick-up trucks were left parked because of the snowfall. I love the little gaden tractor for its light plow that makes a nice clean job on the driveway BUT after just an 11" snowfall, the larger tractor it the tool.
How much is a plow for the UTV? It would be nice but you would still want the blower on the tractor, so you would still be putting it on and off. Eh

I don't recall much discussion in this thread regarding the actual snow condition. We can get both light and heavy wet snow here which makes a huge difference in how well my UTV can handle it. In a light snow it's much more easeful and enjoyable to use the UTV. It's quicker, more nimble, and is less tiring in that it doesn't require the concentration that the tractor does. Being in Quebec I assume that your snows are generally on the lighter side except perhaps in the swing seasons. Of course even if it's light if it get's deep enough it can be more than the UtV can handle.

Yes it surprising how well an RTV1100C plows. Have to get plow and frame reinforced for next winter. For our property we still need the tractor with chains and commercial duty plow. At least the tractor has a soft cab.
