I'm working on that one Sir... got some mud on the tires yesterday!

As for the slip clutch, TSC has a new drive shaft on the shelf, with the Slip Clutch installed, they had $390 or so priced on it.

Definitely will make that upgrade!

Slip clutches are nice. BUT just be aware that if you don’t free them up each spring, they have a tendency to become locked up due to normal corrosion between the clutch plates. When this happens, you essentially lose your protection because the clutch won’t slip if you hit something. So at the start of each season you need to loosen the spring loaded bolts up and run the implement like that and allow the clutch to slip and burnish off the clutch plates in the process. Then retighten the bolts to specifications and get to mowing. If you don’t do that, you run the risk of the clutch not slipping when you hit something and then the next weak link in the driveline will fail. So I personally like slip clutches, but I also like the simplicity of throwing a handful of shear bolts in the tool box each spring. Both systems work but the clutch does need servicing as above otherwise you can end up with an expensive repair.

But either way, enjoy mowing! That tractor will handle a 6’ cutter like it’s not even there.

I have the Mahindra (Kodiac) medium duty, no slip clutch, haven't sheared a pin yet; it has a habit of going out of balance like as if one blade is sticking or something. When that happens, I lower the rpm to an idle and let the blade stop- then slowly restart it until is smooths out. Then its good to go until I hit something hard. So, no rotary cutter is perfect. So, start the blade gently so you don't shear the pin!

Got about 2 hours of Hoggin' done yesterday afternoon. Broke two sheer bolts within the first 30 minutes, but then mowed for a good hour and a half without breaking one.

I figured out that running it in 540 at 2300 engine RPM's is so sweet. Tractor just hums along, doesn't even know the cutter is back there.

I will order the shaft with slip clutch this weekend. Only takes a few minutes to change the sheer bolt, but wow what a PITA it is.

My front / rear chain guards have shipped from Tarter Parts... will install those once they arrive and I will post some pics.

So far, this cutter has been doing well. It's the operator that has to get his headspace and timing right!

My 2022 5155 has only 93 hrs after a down year for medical stuff. Have changed the engine oil but am dreading the hydraulics. This fall, will open all 6-7 drain plugs, replace the filter, clean the strainer and replace the fluid. I have chosen TRIAX AGRA UTTO XL TRACTOR FLUID, a synthetic blend. The specs and reviews on it are very good and it is red, so easily seen on the dip stick. Am now putting up firewood for the winter and the grapple is great.

But being an a forested area, the size of the 5155 makes it hard to maneuver among the trees. Last year I bought a used John Deere 1025R, their smallest tractor. It can lift ~800 lbs in front and back which meets many of my needs about 70% of the time. So between Big Red and Little Johnny my tractor needs are well covered.

Question for the Techs:

I have a 2023 Mahindra 5155 that just passed 50 hours. The dealership I bought my tractor from, no longer "deals" with Mahindra. They are refusing to do any service even though I purchased the tractor and implements from them. Found a service center about 25 miles from me, they are a stocking Mahindra dealer and have been since 2019.

I realize I could do the 50 hour service myself, does not look crazy complicated (at least from the service book standpoint) but I don't have the time or opportunity these days. So, I will take it to the new place I found. I was quoted "around $1,000 give or take" by the service manager yesterday on the phone. Super nice guy, answered all my questions, even put me on the phone with the tech who would be working on my tractor.

They offered for me to come by this weekend, and tour their facility, talk to the tech, see the workspace, and the fluids they use (oils, hydraulic fluids, etc).

Immediately I felt comfortable with them. I will transport the tractor there and pick it up.

Is "about $1,000 give or take" a reasonable quote? There is absolutely zero issues mechanically with my tractor. So, only the service will be done. Is this quote in the ballpark?

Yes Sir... 36 years in the Army... E1 to E9, then assessed as a Warrant Officer. I retired as a CW3 (P). They offered me CW4 and choice of assignments, but 1987 to 2023, I was DONE. Still working as a CTR now, doing cool stuff, staying relevant.

IMO $1000 is high, are they replacing the hydraulic fluid, it is not called for in the 50hr. the oil/filters only add up to $300. i was quoted 500ish.

Does anyone have any tips/tricks for changing the fuel filter on a 5145? It looks pretty straight forward in the manual but I can see that my new filter doesn’t have a spot to hookup the water fuel sensor (at least I think it is the water fuel sensor)

I just recently picked up everything I will need for the 50 hr service. Including 12 gallons of hydraulic fluid. My bill was $650. I would say with labor your $1000

replacing the Hydraulic is 100hr service so the question of is the $1000 50hr service including the hydraulic needs to be asked, if it does then yes $1000 is reasonable if not it is $400 high IMO.

I recently purchased a 5145 with 150 hours. When I took it to the dealer for service I asked about common problems. The technician stated that they have had some issues with the PTO clutch and they think it was due to the engagement linkage not being adjusted correctly - clutch being pushed in too tightly. He showed me how hard mine had to be pushed before the PTO engagement stick would lock into position. He stated that they would loosen the linkage some - I haven’t let them do mine yet. I can see causing clutch problems if it isn’t engage fully, but this would be from too much pressure. Thoughts?

welcome and congrats, the 5145 is a hell of a tractor i think you will enjoy it, as to the PTO clutch issue i would not know i have never taken the cover off of it (yet).

We get $1400 for scheduled service of this machine at my shop.
It includes pick up and delivery.

There is quite a bit of labor involved beyond that.
Greasing, clutch and brake adjustments, tire pressures, coolant checks, bolt torque specs, hydraulic pressure checks, etc, etc.
Just p.u. And delivery averages $300 and that’s for a short throw of a 20 mile radius.
At charges of $140 per hr, it adds up.
We do stuff the average home owner doesn’t.
A simple fluid change is best handled by the homeowner if possible imo not only to save money but to always have your tractor.
