Anyone had to replace the oil pan on a Mahindra 5155 yet? We just got into it today and it looks like we need to remove the whole front axle. The pan is loose and we have the two front bushings out but there's like a 3/8ish "lip" sticking out of the pan and into the transmission that won't let it drop straight down. Also won't go forward because of the axle. Thoughts?

It's pretty common in most tractors that use a structural oil pan to need to move the front end support forward to drop the pan. Sometimes it requires replacing a few mounting bolts with some a little longer and rolling the axle forward to gain the needed clearance. In your case you may get by with just loosening them up a few threads, jack up the tractor center section slightly, put a floor jack under the axle and support and see what that gains you.

Thanks H, that all makes sense. I was really just tired and frustrated. I guess we never knock holes in those pans anywhere convenient. We'll be out in the woods making another run at it today.

There has to be more to the story. How did you do it? 5155 has quite a bit of clearance.

So we lifted the loader and blocked it up, unbolted the front axle and moved it forward about 2 or 3 inches. Only other minor thing was pulled the pin to the power steering cylinder. Then just sewed in back up. We had two big bushings between the pan and the front axle and then each had a really thin one as well, they were a bit of a pain. It was really pretty uneventful. I was frustrated before because I was told by the dealer you just remove the drive shaft and that's it. (a roll pin on each end, a carrier bearing and a bunch of plastic) Anyway it's just a day's work for an amateur if you know going into it what to expect. That's out in the woods mind you, in the shop 2 to 4 hours should do it. If someone has questions feel free to hollar back.
