I’m a big guy and I’m looking for comfortable pants for work and working around the property. I have some roundhouse bibs but would like something with a waistband also. Maybe a stretch or elastic waistband cargo of some sort. Any suggestions?

I’m sure there are others out there but my favorite for the last ten years are Duluth trading “ Dry on the Fly pants “ There might be more than one version so read the fine print .

If you have never tried them you will think there thin and flimsy looking but I can tell you they wear like iron .

There cool in the summer and very comfortable. I have Nine pairs and use them for work . The waistband stretches and order the size you normally wear and they will be fine . I also enjoy the wide belt loops no Plummer's crack.

I wear DXL Harbor Bay pants, shorts and t-shirts. I can order pants and shorts with the waist and length I need to fit me. I have jeans, khaki work pants, several colors of shorts, and multiple t-shirts, both with and without pockets.

I've settled on Duluth Trading company "Fire Hose" for my work/around the house pants. Roomy cargo pockets, heavy duty, wide belt loops to hold my web belts.
They HAD made a "logging/heavy brush" pant that was ideals for walking through thick brambles and thorn trees, but that was discontinued apparently. I only got 2 pair :(
I do like the “ Dry on the Fly pants “ , I tend to wear them for doctor visits etc. (kind of like rural formal wear).
I liked their cargo shorts when they fit my lifestyle. They used to offer a size (14" inseam) that covered my knee, helped when I kneeled down on pavement, concrete etc. But that was discontinued.

I checked the label on the cargo pants I got from Wal-Mart, they're 2% Spandex. at one time I couldn't find any cargo pants there that didn't have some type of expansion material in them.

Costco has a brand called “Weatherproof”. I like them so much, we are wearing them as uniform pants.
Unbeatable.

+1 on the Duluth Fire Hose cargo pants. I've been using them for years and so far, have found none better.

I give the Duluth Fire Hose my endorsement. I am what a friend who just passed called a Short Portley - or in other words a 5x5.. right that's 5 foot tall by 5 foot around!

The Duluth Fire Hose is my most comfortable work pants and in fact I am sitting in them right now! (But I am only doing office work atm.)

I also give another Duluth fire hose pants a recommendation. I have also found some very comfortable and well fitting pants at Costco and Cabelas.

How big are we talking?

I have 4 pairs of these in khaki. Very durable, stretchy a bit so if I'm doing scaffolding or getting on the tractor, I can move well. Draw strings at the bottom if you need to tie them up.

I'm not as big as you but I find the Dickies brand pretty durable and comfortable.

I'm 6' 4' and offense lineman weight. The only work jeans I buy now are Lee extreme motion
Jeans.

They stretch when you're bending down or bending over. You don't have to keep pulling them up

I don't have any of the cargo pants. I just have regular extreme motion jeans. Both Kohl's and JCPenney have them in big and tall

Second the Costco Weatherproof for summer work. Stretchy and cheap. I buy them online in bulk whenever there's a sale. These aren't briar wear, but they're great on the farm and in the shop. Lot's of lawn care guys use these.

Another guy who doesn't shop at Costco or 90% of the stores that will be mentioned, is @tacticalturnip .

He is also a big dude who might have recommendations.

I know he doesn't shop there for his clothes because he has said on this site how big he is. I think he is even taller than me and I can't shop at those stores.

Since I got tagged in here, lol, I'll chime in.

It used to be that I had two options; whatever J.C. Penny had in stock, or when I could make the trip to Portland, I'd grab some things from DXL. The DXL stuff is nicer, but you're paying for it.

With the advent of the internet I've started purchasing things like shirts online, from places like Duluth Trading, but I still have to buy my pants in person. So, it's still J.C. Penny, but I haven't been to DXL in a few years.

I hate spending money on clothing, and I wear them until there is nothing left. Not to mention I can't keep them unstained to save my life. Covid also ruined my taste for interacting with the general public.

I also like the Duluth firehose pants. Their originals wear like cast iron, but feel too much like wearing a burlap sack (itchy and course fabric) for my tastes. I still have my first 2 pairs that I can't wear out, I'm too cheap to throw away, but never really wear them. But the "stretch" version (I think they call it "flex"?) are very comfortable and seem to wear just as well. The weave of the fabric is much tighter on these, so it doesn't feel like you're wearing a burlap sack. I've got several pair of the firehose flex cargo pants that I wore every day at my last job for years. I did buy one pair of their regular (not cargo) pants in the same firehose flex fabric, and they are very nice pants. I wear them when I need (or want) to be dressed a little nicer. I also like that they make the front pocket pouches out of the same material that the pants are made out of, and not the thin "tissue paper" fabric that most everyone else makes their pockets out of. I used to carry an amazing amount of keys in my pockets for my previous work, and any other pants I tried, I was always getting stabbed in the legs with the giant wad of keys I was carrying.

Mrs Slim recently bought me a few pairs of Levi's "Signature Gold" (that's all they say on the tag), and they are garbage. Not work jeans quality at all. Paper thin denim and feel like they're chasing the bottom of the Walmart market. In her defense, she ordered them online because she knew I needed jeans, and these were "cheap" at ~30 bucks. I'm sure I'll have them worn out by the end of the mowing season.
