I'm a car enthusiast. I frequent online auctions and car forums. I won't buy a car that comes from a road salt state.

They are starting to switch to CaCl in my area too. It’s less damaging to vegetation than MgCl. Neither are corrosive to vehicles.
Calcium Chloride is a salt and will increase corrosion/rust as will any salt.

Because it is a salt, calcium chloride in water is an electrolytic solution. Exposing materials to an aqueous solution containing calcium chloride increases the likelihood and the rate of corrosion.

I don’t know why the Midwest still uses rock salt on icy roads. There are several non corrosive alternatives. It amounts to local governments destroying everyone’s vehicles. The magnesium chloride and sand/cinders used by my state highway department are non corrosive. Many other western states also use those materials. And no vehicle corrosion.
Where are you going to get cinders(boiler slag) now?

Maybe I have the chemical formulation incorrect. Whatever chemical they mix with sand or cinders doesn’t corrode vehicles.

The car dealers in my area won’t take those rusty vehicles in trade.

My first cars were from salt states. Beautiful 1950s and 60s cars with crumbing rocker panels and their fenders flopping in the breeze o_O

I would never even consider buying a vehicle from Kalifornia either. Too much Newsome pollution junk.
When you are from rustbelt areas you specifically go to CA, AZ, because they are rust free.
In the 2000's I took multiple trips to CA to pickup 70's Toyotas and body parts. Trailer them back to NJ where I would resell for a nice tidy profit. Hispanic community demand for them is sky high.
On the flip side, due to the hot dry climate the demand for plastic parts in AZ and CA was high because that deteriorates there like metal rusts here.
