My wife and I paid 3 points to get our first mortgage down to 12.5% in 1985. I also remember gas rationing. My father and mother both grew up during the depression. I took their lessons to heart. We are nowhere near as bad off as they had it. Not even close.
Yes but the fed reserve is humming along printing the way out of debt. Income tax since then. Your grands turned in 20 dollar gold pieces for 20:dollar bills. Now it takes 70-80 20 dollar bills to buy that same 20 dollar gold piece back. All your silver money ain't silver, your copper money ain't copper, your gold is cotton paper, so where is the value?

Think about this: what intrinsic value does gold or any metal have? It’s only as valuable as the market says it is. Paper money is likewise the same. Real goods: food and durable goods, and services are really the only things that have intrinsic value. Within a couple of decades I doubt that paper and metal money will even still exist. It will all be digital money.

If I had a pile of gold or a pallet of cash and I was very open about it, then it all collapses. Which one would cause a group of armed men showing up here to get it? I do believe brass will be the value. You can get anything you want with it. Trade it or even give it to unexpectant recipients. I know a man that laid down 14 during Katrina. They were shooting at him, but they had shotguns and pistols. He had a 30-06. Other side, my uncle was over a trooper headquarters in Louisiana, sent him down there. He said they were not investigating any deaths. So in the absence of law... Uncle ended up on an overpass watching over some of Angola's finest. My friends here worked at a prison here that all those Angola inmates were sent to. I mean before they got there the windows were shot out of the buses while they were going down there. Inmates were fully chained, arms and legs. Been peeing and pooping in their clothes for a week. Some were big with dread locks to their ankles. Protocol was to shave them, strip them, hose them down. They were getting loud about it. Guards picked the biggest baddest looking one and beat him down to a pulp. Drug him off around corner of building by his ankle bracelets. Rest of prisoners got back in line after that. They purposely kept that one inmate in another building so the others wouldn't know if he was live or dead. Then they moved the good prisoners at the prison to some other buildings they had and locked the Angolians in the cells. I told that to describe how the law can be. So, if this America experiment unravels, and they are trying to unravel it, get ready for open season.

It's used for hay and horses to graze.
Do you eat the horses or raise them for meat? Are you Amish? If not those horses are pets. Dog kennels aren't considered farming either.

I don’t see the brown smoggy air in the cities anymore like we had in the 1970s and don’t smell it. No more rivers catching fire like back then. Nixon’s clean air and water acts worked. China can kill their people; we don’t have to copy them.
Yep, good thing that pollution doesn’t cross borders.
Just like the rafts of plastic, they stay right along the coast line of the country they came from.

Then there’s the economic advantage aspect. How long has China been considered a “developing nation”? They are kicking our @ss and the environmentalists just keep on saddling the US with more “environmental” regulations while China becomes the world’s reigning superpower.
The dollar is about to be replaced as the world’s currency. Your bank account’s value will soon be diminished even further. While we ban things we need to survive, they are laughing themselves to sleep over our guilt/stupidity that the crying teenagers and their enabling parents.

There is going to be a BIG price to be paid for this and it will most definitely be a substantial loss of the middle class in this country and probably war. Both of those things are starting to happen right now, if you didn’t notice.

I’m being completely honest. I have lived at my current place for 18 years. During that time, the electric coop has closed two coal plants, built a new gas plant, and added many wind and solar installations. My monthly electricity bill is almost identical to my bill in 2005. They claim the renewables and gas plant are cheaper energy. I don’t understand your logic about “affordable energy.” You might not like renewables, but cost isn’t a valid argument.
Better grab some glasses and check your bill again. Ours has gone up. There’s more taxes on energy since 2020, so they can use the confiscated money for more green energy projects.

And then you will be 100% in the control of their digital world. They can turn off or on your money as they feel fit. Don’t believe me? Just ask the Canadian Truckers how it went for them when they protested Covid shots.
Or how about China with their social scores, step out of line and your “rating” goes down. Then you become more restricted. Then your kids can only go to certain colleges. Speak out against the new administrative state, and your kids go to Butte State Community College. Be a good little butt kisser and they can go anywhere they want.

Anyone who wants digital currency is a fool and will be controlled as one.

Physical Money is Freedom. Digital currency is oppression.

We need to do what is best for our country and quit fixating on what China does. I remember the disgusting air and water pollution of the 1970s, you might be too young to remember. It’s far better today because we did what is best to clean up our country.
I disagree, pollution is a worlds problem and it need world wide solution to make any differences, the way to make a reel impact would be to cut in half the biggest polluting countries and not shaving fractions on already relatively green and conscientious countries. This was debated thoroughly in a other thread but ho well ... the reality is we make policies that force companies leave our countries to countries that don't have these pollution policies, so as a result yes we pollute less but them they pollute way more, so the global pollution increase. But hey we feel good about ourself and we say, hey guys look at us we are doing so good, we don't have any jobs but we don't create much pollution...

I remember the polluted smoggy air back in the 60's where I could not take deep breaths without going into a deep coughing fit. Yes, the changes they made back then did make a huge difference that improved our air quality significantly. Since then (almost 50 years ago) we have continued the same energy policies using oil and coal with continuous improvements and the air quality continues to get better. This proves that oil and coal can continue to be used without going back to the bad air quality days of the 60's.

Green energy will never be a national energy replacement for the USA. The green energy agenda is nothing more than a huge money grab perpetrated by corrupt greedy politicians, corrupt greedy businesses and our greatest adversary China. This reminds me of the huge money grabbing scam perpetrated by corrupt big pharma and corrupt politicians to push the covid vaccine and all the booster shots on the world when it wasn't needed at all for most people. It was all about the money.

Like I said before, oil will be replaced as our primary energy source one day but it won't be with solar and wind energy because solar and wind will never provide the energy needed to run our nation as a primary energy source.
