Not normal. Mine doesn't change sound whether the clutch in or out.

If you have the 4030C loader, the lynch pins will rattle and sound like an engine knock, but that's on either side of the steering column, not the rear end.

And ditto MiniDonkey22, the clutch is only used for starting and the PTO. It's nice to have as you can ease into the startup of an implement.

Yep. Little over a year now.

FWIW, my 1985 deutz-allis 5220 hst has a clutch. The 2017 MF GC 1705 I am thinking of buying does not have a clutch.

Ok, I see now. That is weird… I’ve never seen a clutch on an HST. I have a 4-range hydro, but no clutch

Kubota has had clutches on hydros for many years. It isn't unique.
Go to the dealer and try another tractor on the lot- see if it has the rattle.
