Are you saying that absence of animals hung up in fence on either side of road while driving 15k-18k miles per year is not indication of what is in fences farther from road? I don't "walk" 15k miles of fence every year but I see my share of fencing in remote areas and the only deer dead in a fence a few years ago was by the interstate. By comparison I see at least a dozen goats every year with heads stuck in net field fence (usually still alive) constructed by their drugstore cowboy owners.
That's exactly what i mean. You only see the stuff by the road, but there's a bunch of fencing that's not by the road. So imagine that you are driving by a piece of fencing, it's very likely that is just one side of the fenced area, now imaging there is 3/4 of the fencing you aren't seeing. That means you are not seeing 75% of the fencing, so in your case you are not seeing between 45K-54K of the fencing thats sitting right by that particular route you are driving. Now imagine you are not seeing the fencing where you don't drive.

Deer can jump a 12' fence with ease. Witnessed it personally many times.
Are you sure it wasn't a Cougar? LOL

I have seen them (deer) jump a 10 foot fence. If given the option for a lower fence they train themselves to go around the higher fence.

Cougar can jump 12' easy. I've seen a few in cages at people's homes. 12' with a cyclone top. You could throw a can on top of pen and he'd slap it off.
Neighbor had a 12' pen with 25 white tail deer. They'd jump in and out all the time. Mainly the older ones that were more wild.

So if deer and cougar can clear 12' fences, antalope and everything else can scoot under, what difference doe it make what 5' fence is built with? BTW I saw a herd of pigs yesterday flying South for the winter.

Ever seen a bull trying to get to a cow in heat? Four foot is easy for most cattle even my little Dexter. Fencing only works when the cows want it to and are not hungry or ***!!.
Depends on your animal. We used a lot of one wire fences growing up and one hot wire was a lot more effective that three or four tight barbed wires in keeeping a horny bull in his place. consequently around our lots we used a lot of woven wire fencing with a couple of barbed wire son top and one stand-off hot wire to protect the fence. (This also helped reduce a lot of rubbing in the spring which is tough on fences.)

Horses don't count, the question is will you believe everything you read here when pigs fly?

Oddly enough, we had a young deer get caught in a woven wire fence yesterday. By the time I saw it, it was already dead. So, barbs were not an issue.
Some animals are just too stupid to survive.

A new neighbor is encroaching across the property line. I need to get his encroaching items back onto his own property and then fence it to make the property line very visible and stop further encroachment. Oddly, this property line is well marked and flagged. Just a disrespectful neighbor.
Yeah, I have similar problems on my back line. Only solution is to clear and fence. But make sure you have a survey done so there's no argument.

Seriously? Do you live under a rock? Fire up google search and punch in " pictures of animals caught in barber wire fence.:rolleyes::rolleyes:
Gotta watch out for that barber wire fencing. It'll shave you a little too close.

Funny - I made a mistake - so do you have anything of substance to add or is that the extent of your contribution?

I thought that was funny also...a real Zinger ;)

Since wildlife is your concern and you simply want to keep your neighbor away, I would only use bare wire and only install two wires one at two feet and one at 4 feet...

I will be building a fence for horses in the near future, and I was told to not bother with barb wire for horses. Other than being pain to install and scratch your horses they dont do much to keep horses inside or wildlife out, so I won't put any ... for cows I would.
If building a fence for horses think wood.

Ok for the bottom part but they crib to death on the wooden part. We run shock wire at the top of the wooden fences in Kentucky.
Years ago they tried the plastic fence but even treated for ultra violet, it still disintegrated.

The op wants to curb encroachment but I don't know if he said what is encroaching. If it be livestock,
I'd just string the wire fence and put a solar fence charger on the top line for the shock part.
The chargers can do miles of fencing.

Kentucky is we’re I first saw angle iron bolted to the top stall board to keep the horses from chewing on the boards.

That works for a stall. It is cost prohibited for miles of fence and is why the shock wire along the top.
I hope the op picks up on this alternative with my post to you as I have provided a link for the charger.
Perhaps I should reply directly to the op with this.
