Loan a Yanmar

Yes, the price seemed optimistic to me, but I don't know the local prices.

I wondered if the ad was an attempt to set the final loss amount (new tractor minus Craigslist sale= payout). I also tend to think of con rods as a late in life issue, except for over speed. Could the neighbor have lost control going down a hill and over speed the engine? (I am grasping at straws here.)

All the best,

Peter

I DO NOT lend my tractor - PERIOD. Many reasons - as outlined above. Plus - my insurance will only cover when the tractor is used on my property. So ...... I, also, do not go off property with my tractor.

Want to borrow my HD pry bar and wheelbarrow - OK.

Wow. This is a great thread.

My cousin earlier today, asked to borrow my recently acquired and personally rebuilt Yanmar. He needs to move some dirt with the loader. Few weeks ago he returned my trailer with bent ramps, a broken leaf spring, and broken hub that had been rewelded.

Now I have a tractorbynet account.

DO NOT lend out the Yanmar ! Finding replacement fenders or a bent frame is not a position to be in for the YM2210.

Who does that sort of thing? Seriously.

I would be tempted to sit down with the cousin and go through the list of what it would take to bring the trailer back into the condition it was lent out at. (And rewelding doesn't cut it in my book.) If he fixes it, (new ramps, springs (plural!), and new hubs) I would then have a discussion with him about proper use of other people's tools and hand him a business card for the local rental center, even if it is 150 miles away. Leopards don't change their spots.

Good on you for restoring your Yanmar. I wouldn't risk that effort with anyone, ever. (Well, maybe @bmaverick, if he lived next door, but...)

Welcome to TBN! You might want to update your location so folks know the general neck of the woods you are in...

All the best,

Peter

Before finding new homestead location up here, I rented a room with kitchen and bath privileges for 6 months on a farm. The wife was running everything because her husband got injured. They had a broken JD850, basically a machine like mine without the PowerShift. I had spent about 20 hours repairing mechanical, electrical and the bad cooling system. When I took it for a test drive, the wife said she never hear that machine run so quite and nicely before. She use to mow 5 acres with it and was scared the whole time, now she loves the little tractor. And I even fixed the 3PT finish mower 3PT arrangement and sharpened the blades.

The seldom key point in all of this is, it's possible to loan a machine out to someone who values it as much as you would along with several hours of experience on the same models like it. This is a very RARE thing to find.

Today at the Home Depot, a John Deere 3032R with loader and backhoe sat on the lot in the rental area with a sign for $339 a day. There was also a sub-compact with loader and backhoe for $299 a day. Add your fuel and it needs to be returned as clean as you pick it up. The rental fee included the trailer. We now have options.
