Loan a Yanmar

I would never lend my equipment, I lent my ATV once the broke the handle bars and handles, bent my light, and scratched all my factor plastic, then he told me I’m sorry. Shoot me! Never again, I don’t borrow so they can’t ask.

I keep a box of junk tools around that I don't care about. When someone asks to borrow something, that's what they get.

Beyond that, the answer is no. People don't take care of their own stuff, it is not reasonable for them to expect them to take care of mine, and *I* have to repair or replace it when they ruin it.

On my wife's insistence I lent my nephew a screwdriver, a week later I found it in the grass, all rusty. I showed it to her and told her that he was off the program. For good. She didn't argue . . .

I will not lend tools. Period. Case closed. Some of these clowns could wreck a crowbar in a sandbox.

Best Regards,

Mike/Florida

State it likes its a company policy, and include the insurance angle:

"I'm sorry, but I have a policy to never lend out my machinery to anyone, and my insurance won't cover damages to borrowed equipment or for injuries to the person who borrowed it.

Or, you could just say 'no'. Lol

Well, the neigborly thing to do would be to ask what needs to be done and decide if you're up to taking on the task. I would personally just offer to help him out, even if I'm not overly familiar with them but that's who I am. I've asked neighbor's if they could help level out some land before and they have brought their tractor over and ran it themselves. He may have asked thinking you may just offer to help. Could be a good way to make a freindly neighbor though!

Under your scenario, I would not lend it out. My neighbor and I have been friends for 40 years. He is meticulous with his equipment and yet when he wants a hole dug, I come over and dig it with my backhoe. There's no resentment, he gets it. So a basic stranger, with no history... Nope

Good grief. You might be able to save him life or limb by having a short talk with him. If you’re up to it. Not saying he’d listen if the idea of a loan seemed plausible his head.

I will do as everyone has suggested, decline the offer. I had a worker on the farm who broke ever single tractor, skidsteer, tool he touched. A simple reflection onto his use of the tools made the decision an easy one.

One of the neighbors has noticed the tractors being used in the past and wants to "borrow one of those old red tractors" for the spring and part of the summer. I am disinclined to lend him a Yanmar and was surprised he asked. Would any of you ever lend out one of your Yanmar tractors?

Neither a borrower nor a lender be!

Still amazes me that people think they can jump on a piece of equipment and think they can properly operate it, (beyond starting and driving) never mind it can take months of use to get comfortable.

Rented a full size hoe almost 40 years ago to dig my new sewer line to the street and was struggling a bit but getting there, a guy pulls up in a black BMW and walks over to me and says you don't know what your doing get off and I'll do it. He hops on and about 2 hours later it was done. I still had know idea who he was when he walked over to introduce himself, he lived 300 yards down the road and we've been close friends since.

I often do snowblowing, road repair, etc for the neighbors just because I feel like it. Once a neighbor asked if he could pay me to always snowblow his driveway. I said it would cost over $30,000+ (probably $40k+ now) to replace my equipment if something goes south - so, no. I don't think non-owners have any idea how much tractors & equipment cost

The other thing might be is that he sees borrowing an "old tractor" as like borrowing a wheel barrow- no big deal. So, he's really not familiar with equipment. Wanting to use it for an extended time as well kinda suggests that.

Never loan a tractor. Inexperience kills.

Aside from that, that would be like asking me for the loan of my Mustang... No way.
