Based on my research, the bathroom exhaust fan only needs to be on it’s own circuit (20 amp) if the fan also has a heater. will you have heaters? Curious if that is the issue.

I have been researching this quite extensively as I am going to start my wiring as soon as it warms up a bit.

also, I called my barn builder and got a bid on the snow breaker’s to be installed. It’s amazing how much snow can stay on a large roof.

I feel for you on the roof snow/ice issue. We had the same exact problem on our 3.5/12 slope standing seam metal roof.

First winter after moving in, our kitchen range hood vent got sheared right off the roof. Had some dripping over the range in the kitchen, ... that's odd. Go outside, and the vent is laying on the ground.

The only fix our roof needed was to glue a protector in the middle of each roof panel that had a vent. It's like a 2 by 3 inch metal L bracket, glued to the roof, and it rips the sliding ice in half, which takes nearly all the pressure off anything below it. Working well so far, anyway (6th winter now).

I would go snap a pic for you, but there's 4 inches of snow on the roof now so they are hidden, and 12-16" more snow starting tomorrow (yay).

If you're mounting up something fancier above your chimney, you should be able to attach it with S5 clamps. I don't believe they are terribly expensive.

Edit: These are the basic snowguards we used.

David, can you contact the company that installed your metal roof and see what they recommend or have available for the diverter? I'm kinda surprised that wasn't part of their install, or at least brought up as a potential issue/option during install.

I am keeping an eye on the roof. I ordered snow guards today, but I still have to figure out what style of snow diverter I am putting ip for the chimney. They are quite pricey and mounting systems for standing seam roof can double the price. I would build my own but supplies of everything are limited and prices for metal are thru the roof. Bad pun for this instance, I suppose. I am trying to get my materials together. Putting the snow guards up there should almost guarantee that we don’t get another snowfall this year.
With so much outstanding from the build, I don’t want to spend on this right now, but the potential for this to become 10k in repair cos is very real.
I for one greatly appreciate you working on your house this Winter!!! That has diverted a LOT of bad weather away from us in Northern Missouri and directly to your location!!!! We thank you!!! :ROFLMAO: ;)

OK, then please wait until the end of March when ski season is over here in VA !

My snow guards arrived yesterday. Installing those will be a chore We might have decent weather for that this weekend. It is raining all day today with temps in 40’s now and upper 50’s all night tonight. So hopefully all the remaining snow will be gone. I still don’t have the diverters that I need, but I think I have found what I want to use. Provided, of course, that I can get them.

I'm curious what you're imaging for "diverters". I could picture just buying some aluminum angle strips from home depot, and bolting to s5 brackets, making a "V" above the chimney. Our basic snow guards seem to be doing the trick for 6 years now, but I can't go up and see it directly in the winter.

The attached picture shows one on a house near me. 0602151420.jpg

Another view.

These have been on since fall of 2015. Made by local chimney place. Jon

I posted a video this morning. I’ve been working on this one for some time. It is the most work I have put into a video.
It is basically the whole build so far.

Yes the diverter is a wedge to split the snow and ice so it doesnt push on the chimney. The standing seam makes it harder to set up and I was planning tonise the s-5 clamps but was having trouble figuring out the rest of it. I can just buy a pre-made one for about $450. But something about that kills my soul.

How about just some aluminum angle, two pieces to make a "v"? It would cost you $10. Ok, $30-40 with clamps and whatnot. $450 is insane; I'm sure your budget is stretched out already on the whole build.

I am not too embarrassed to say that one of the support legs for my extended chimney pipe is clamped onto a standing seam with a small old c-clamp that I didn't mind giving up. Cranked down super tight, a little natural rust to lock it in place, et voila.

Great video you and your wife are a great team. My wife and I always worked together painting houses, grass cutting weed eating, wood flooring carpenter work. She does not like cleaning cars and I don’t do windows so we fit. Working together is something you all will never forget

Tough deciding what to keep and what to cut. When our church building was being built, I put up an IP camera and have over 80k pictures. Made a time lapse of the construction. Took a long time to put together, and still over an hour long. I need to cut it down more.

I figured it would be easy until I started. But you end up wading thru countless hours of video and going thru the edit multiple times, cutting things down by a fraction of a second. My wife loves it and has played it a dozen times. I guess that’s good enough to justify most of the effort.

Spent most of today up on the roof. We installed most of the snow guards for the main roof deck. It will be finished tomorrow. My back hurts.

Do they clamp on the standing seam?

Nice time lapse. Yeah those take a lot of time to put together. I'm still amazed that you have time to do all these videos, work and build the place...(y)

I forgot to take a picture of it yesterday. Hopefully the video turns out good. We will be back up there today, but it is 18 degrees right now so I will probably do a Little tractor work first. Our shared road is a terrible mess right now. I hate to say it, but some of the people who drive that rod are just idiots. Cant drive slowly thru the puddles, always trying to splash mud up and a puddle turns into a pothole.
My electrician brought up all the supplies Friday. We should be able to get inspection done for temp power this coming week. i still wont be able to get it because I have to dig a trench and drop the well line in when they trench the power, but I am certainly looking forward to it

Not a great picture but here are the snow guards.
