I live on a back country road.
Very hilly and narrow.
Cyclists sure like the challenge of riding here but to the detriment of local drivers.
They weave all over the road making it impossible to pass them. and usually 2-3 abreast.
Passing them is nearly impossible so I just have to wait 'til they make it up the hill or take my life in hand and cross the double line.
The problem IMHO is they mostly seem to be 'entitled' doing there thing.

You have no power, you simply reap what you so!

They are. The yahoos of the bike world and just like bad truck drivers, car or motorcycle drivers they deserve no respect no matter how hard they try and play on ones words or try and promote themselves as doing the right thing!

We have a busy roller coaster road here and a person has to keep alert with all the driveways. I came over the hill and 2 mothers pushing baby strollers side by side in my lane. No way could I stop so I went in the oncoming lane. There was no traffic there...thankfully. If I would have seen traffic, I'm afraid I may have taken out the walkers. It was so quick with NO time to think. WHY the heck were they on that road when they could be on the side streets? Crazy. 🤪

The only thing I would mention is for you "safe riders" (of bicycles), I've seen several on here make the similar comments that they ride mostly on the side of the road, but if a car comes up behind them, then they suddenly TAKE THE LANE.

Please know that is about the fastest way on earth you will be killed. And you're grieving relatives (because you'll be dead, remember, so you can't do it) will be oh-so-quick to blame the car and the driver.

Suddenly doing something unexpected (to the driver of the car) and so incredibly STUPID as to swerve into the oncoming path of the car to "take the lane" is insane. If a driver of a car is coming up behind a bicycle rider, and sees that the rider is all the way over to the right, they will automatically assume that is where they are GOING TO CONTINUE TO RIDE, and the driver will then work out how to pass them or go around them to the left. Once they've made that decision to go around, and they are in the process of doing that, for you, the "safe rider" to suddenly swerve into the center or far left side of the lane to TAKE the lane is just beyond all common sense.

You are unexpectedly playing chicken with a car. That will not end well. By the time the driver of the car can react, and move the car in attempt to avoid your insanity, you are going to be killed.

Please don't do this.

I can't say I would be happy to have a guy on a bicycle riding in the middle of the lane, or on the left side of the lane. But to have one riding down the right hand edge of the pavement as I approach, and then suddenly swerve out in front of my car as I get close, is a whole new level of WTF.

As the EMS work out how to scrape you off the pavement, the driver will be telling the cops how you committed suicide by diving in front of their car.

Here is an interesting post about why bikes are safer when they are two abreast.

The baby carriages are their force shield, they think nothing can harm them. I saw something similar while in the left lane at a red light on a one way road... just as the light turned green a woman pushing a baby carriage entered the crosswalk without looking. As she entered the lane beside me I watched a car come up expecting to drive through the green light... luckily the driver was paying attention as I had no way to warn them.

One "issue" that is more than obvious is the persistant infringement of the posted speed limits by the automobile group.

The spread in velocities is the danger. IF the car drivers did not habitually travel 5-10 mph OVER the posted speed limit, the bicycle traffic 5-10 mph UNDER the posted limit on back roads would not be such an "inconvenience".

And remember, it is the motor vehicle operator's responsibility to stay in control and be able to avoid obstacles.

Lots of tractor strikes every year also.

We all get used to ourselves. Sometimes that's not a good way to go about life.

SLOW the f^^K down!

I don't see many bicyclists who maintain a speed of 35-45 mph speed. (45to55, minus your 5-10 mph) Generally people in rural areas who don't have all of the time in the world aren't pedaling. Yet your posts demonstrates the lack of perspective between motorists and cyclists.
