Mice mischief

Hadn’t used the Kubota M59 for a few weeks and only had a few killing Frosts lately. Preheated twice and fired up. Several dozen red oak acorns shot out of the side exhaust, blunder bust style! First I seen them use inside the exhaust. Checked under the hood and found a nest of grass and shedded snake skin on top of the radiator. Spent the afternoon cutting moving trees with no problems or unusual smells. Screened the air cleaner intake several years ago. Guess they are looking for a new pantry.

I put enough Tomcat in my garage to kill a water buffalo when I left this year for the winter.

Threw Moth balls under the RV.

Hate mice. They chew stuff up for no reason. They can't eat it, they can't use it for bedding, they're not trying to get into something -- They just like to chew it up.

So I'm gonna learn to like to poison them.

Rats are good for chewing up wiring not so much mice.... My Jeep has been victims of chewed wires and wife's Honda which sits next to Jeep seem to be ignored.... Many car companies have gone to a cheap SOY based insulation on wires and it seem to attract critters.... Think there was class action suit against SUBARU for this very reason... Biggest problem with mice seems to be nesting place and not chewing up "stuff", had air cleaner stuffed full of mouse nest and a "pantry" filled with acorns. even dead mouse, but then he may have suffocated as engine drew air in...

Mice and chipmunks here. I've tried almost everything. It all works for a while. The best cure I've found - leave the hood open on your vehicle. Apparently they do not like the open spaces. Lawn mower - ATV - tractor - Power Wagon.

I have Tomcat bait stations everywhere. Much less mice problems now.

Pure peppermint oil and mothballs ..

I bored holes in one of my pill bottles. Filled the bottle with Peppermint oil saturated cotton balls. Into the glove box on the Taco Wagon. I don't know if it really helped. But no mice in the passenger compartment and it smell nice.

Rebuilt the spring house last winter. Inside is a 4’x4’x7’ insulated box for plumbing and pump controls. Mice have always been a problem. Made it tight in hopes to keep them out. No. Tried dryer sheets, peppermint oil, Irish spring soap and bait blocks. The later might slow them down. Wish the hand sized spiders that live there would eat them.

Rats ate some the fuel injector wires on my Yukon, ugh !!! So I put out bait blocks in the shed where I park. A couple of days later I popped the hood on the Yukon and the rats carried the bait blocks up on the engine up around the in take manifold. So I went and got live traps, caught three the first week, then one more and never had an issue again. The traps stay baited but empty now and no more damage to my car. All mice and rats must DIE !!!!!!

Can you actually imagine a rodent repeller product that worked 100% of the time. A FORTUNE just looking to be made.

No question Fuddy - the SUPERIOR solution. I've had cats - on/off - for years. The problem - can't train them to stay home at night. Owls & coyotes just love cats, for snacks.

Our cats stay in a pen at night, heated room, etc. If car/truck/tractor in a shed...keep cat in shed. Feed in evening and they'll go in at night. Water & litter box of course.

T believe the main problem is SOY based wire insulation, that's food for them.

One this that sure helps is to park the vehicle on a large plastic tarp as the critters don't like walking on that.

Used a soldering iron to melt slots in a pill bottle, hand cream jar and nut container for moth balls. Placed nut jar in spring house. Small containers in airstream compartments. Places have bait blocks too. Moth larvae will find and eat the grain out of the bait blocks. Guess I’m officially an old geezer now smelling like grandmother’s old house. Got to keep my nosy Labrador from them.

I use TomCat traps and poison in my pole barn. Poisons like TomCat aren't as effective as they used to be since the EPA forced a formula change. It may not kill the rodents but at least it gives 'em something to chew on.

First I seen them use inside the exhaust.

old socks filled with mothballs offends 'em. more efficient than trapping or baiting 'em.
But if you want a world class ratter you gotta make it yourself.
rig a barrel with bait and a tip to trap the rats in the barrel.
When you got a barrel of rats put a screen over top and walk away.
In a week or two there will only be a couple left the others will have been eaten.
Let them go.
An old guy who was mule skinner for the army (he called it the war department) told me this, I never tried it.
