Looking at a couple high-end older used mowers. I'm on my second Craftsman t3000 which has been junk. Am I better off with one of these older far superior-made machines?

The g1800 is 2500 bucks, the t1870 is 1800 and the Honda is 1,100. I also found a simplicity zero turn for $1800 that looks like it's not too bad

I would run from the Honda...

still have that models big brother (4518h). it sits in pieces. hydro jerks back and forth, that's when it would run...
Ignition problems, charging problems, starting problems, PTO clutch problems

parts are $$$

I have had much better service from my Hydro MTD that has the Peerless/ Eaton hydrostat, still smooth as silk with 35 years of use.

Many, many years ago - I gave up on box store mowers. My "old" mower is a Kubota G100. I use it for the REALLY tough cutting. Wild rose bushes, buck brush and mowing the field grass in newly opened meadows. My new mower is a Kubota X570. I mow two acres of "grass". About one and a half acres is meadow. Keep it mowed and after a couple years it will look, almost, like a real lawn. All the lawn provides a fire break around the house and outbuildings. This is a meadow I just opened up last year. Sure looks smooth in this picture. Well, it's not. Like most of my lawn - 2 to 3 mph is max.

I saw them in Lowe's or home Depot I can't remember honestly wasn't impressed didn't seem any better than the Craftsman or Husqvarna that was in there.

I would look for a used Simplicity Conquest if you can find one. I had one for 4 years and traded on a Ventrac
