I was looking at this propane regulator for twin tanks, designed for rv's, can anyone think of why this wouldn't work on a portable generator?

I think it SHOULD work, but this reminds me of when we bought a new fifth-wheel motorhome many, many years ago (1989 to be specific) and I had the dealer install a propane powered generator. Right away, that generator would not work. It would start, and almost immediately die. The RV dealer gave up on finding the cause, and sent me to an Onon generator dealer. It took them most of the day, and finally found that the problem was that automatic changeover regulator. When the generator started, the sudden draw on the LPG caused the regulator to shut off. Simply a DEFECTIVE auto change over valve. They replaced that regulator and all was well.

interesting you say that, only distributor anywhere close has 95, 98 octane and 112, way higher than regular gasoline, wondered if
it was some kind of aviation gas or car racing gas, and last post they wanted 9 dollars a gallon. Well, no....better for me to buy regular premium and every six months
pour it in tank of car and get a fresh 5 gallons. Just not going to pour it in tank of generator unless I run out of propane.
Two 30 pounders should give me about 22 hours of run time, maybe more.

I only know a few people running propane units and of them the smallest are on 100 gallon tanks.
If the numbers on this pages charts are correct you may have some difficulties;

I know it would not be portable but would a rental 100 gallon tank and a long hose serve you better.

wow, according to those charts, nothing portable will work....wonder if marketing is all done on summer days?
I guess I'll be running on gasoline during the colder months. Hmmm.

48F and cloudy @ 08:00, headed up to 55F with periods of rain this afternoon. Ten day has changed over to showing a lot of chances for precipitation in the coming days (8 out of 10)

Refilled one suet feeder yesterday. Also opened 20 lb. bag of shelled peanuts and loaded up the nugget feeder with those. First time I've tried them ... they seem to be pretty popular. Probably need to refill sunflower feeders today, also unload the new stuff out of the van and move it into the basement. May relocate bird feeders off the actual lawn today as well.

Also ordered a Valley Industries wet sandblast kit for the pressure washer from Rural King.

Woodruff and square key retrieved and grease well somewhat cleaned out. Started cleaning chain in parts washer. Looks like pump in parts washer has gone **** up again ... probably should replace that ... as there will likely be plenty of demand for it in the coming months.

Have been burning mostly sycamore so far in the double-barrel stove up in the shop this year. At 2 years old, it seems pretty well seasoned and catches pretty easily and provides plenty of heat when temps aren't that cold ... even though it burns pretty quick. Lord knows I have plenty of it and might as well save the oak for when it is colder.

Got driveway blown off late afternoon and crusher run added and that section regraded. Also did some more grading on top section. Next thing will be to put up some rebar to mark the edges before the snow starts to fly.

Hope to get haircut today, otherwise flexible on plans.

Yesterday was clean up the garden day. Time to let the ground rest until next spring.

Uneventful run to town yesterday, except for a nice bottle of Dalwhinnie I found hiding on a low shelf at Costco.

Finished assembling the carb I cleaned yesterday, and let the other one luxuriate in the solvent spa overnight before I massage the new parts into it today.:laughing:

Got a nap worked in there, too, along with a little music on the back porch. Look forward to a little more of that tonight, too.

Good morning to all! The low was at 45 this morning, again going up to 78. No rain in the forecast.

Drew, what size generator? I have two generators, a champion 4KW propane only, and a 10KW dual fuel. I have used the 4KW during a 3 day power outage a few years ago, getting almost 18 hours from one 20lb cylinder. I'm not sure at what percentage of load it was under, but it was powering a 27cf refrigerator, a 21cf freezer, and misc. lights at night. No other big draws, just the essential stuff. My second tank during that outage lasted over 20 hours....

Since I purchased the 10KW, we have not had any power outages for me to determine the run time (of course, since spending the big bucks and being prepared). I have the big generator set up to run the whole house through a transfer switch, utilizing the 220v output. The small generator only has 110v.

The big generator is setup with the auto change over regulator and 2- 40lb Tanks. The cottage is setup with the same regulator, but using 2- 100lb tanks. We did not have any problems last winter with the regulator on the cottage, even with sub freezing temps and snow piled on top of it (my bad... didn't build the little roof for it). That could be due to the larger sized tanks, but I have not noticed any difference in how long the tanks last between summer and winter use... both the same. The load is the same, only used for the cook stove / oven, gas dryer, and a 199K BTU on demand water heater. I won't put gas in the generator unless absolutely necessary!

All of the wood "ripping" is done, for now.... today will start the glue up process. The planks that are being put together are fairly long. I only have enough clamps for one at a time, so it will take a few days to get everything glued up.

Need to get a few groceries this morning, then some shop time.

STA BIL 360 is what to use. Another Ca Ching product form Rick. He use the Marine version.

Every drop of gasoline, for the ranch, gets treated with Sta-BIL 360 Marine for almost 5 years now. 1/2oz. treats 5 gallons.

It's used for previous Polaris Ranger, Corvette, all 2 stroke equipment.

Saw this on way to morning service.

If I was the farmer, not sure I’d be happy with them landing and running all over my crop field. Think there is winter wheat there now. Sure was pretty though.

I always forget to add stabil. Noticed the ZT surging some when first started yesterday. I will put some sea foam in the tank.

We had heavy frost this morning. Windshield iced over.
