Disappearing Amazon orders?

We don't have any problems but have a neighbor who has received 3 orders in the last month that he knew nothing about. they weren't big deals but he never ordered them and Amazon had no explanation, told him to just keep them.

Did you receive an order confirmation or shipping notice on those ghosted orders?

I get the confirmation page in the web browser but no confirmation email. No shipping notice, order cancelation notice, or update of any kind in email or app or website.

Anyone else experienced your Amazon orders just disappearing as if you never placed them? It's happened to me many times in the past couple of months. At first I thought I was losing my mind. I know I placed that order, and when it hadn't shown up for several days, went to check on it, it's not there. No charge, no receipt, no alert that it was canceled, nothing. Just ghosted. Now it happens quite frequently. I am trying to get in the habit of checking my orders every day after I place them, to make sure they're still there. I should not have to do that. Am i the only one? Maybe something is wrong with my account? Or this some covid-related nonsense and happening to everyone?

Never had that happen, actually kind of the opposite has happened to me in the last 6 mo. or so. I'll order something, it gets shipped, next time I log in the item is still in my cart. Not sure if it's some sort of computer bug or if it's a sneaky way to get me to order something twice.
Other than that, no problems with Az. I don't have prime, don't order enough to justify the expense.

As far as the Amazon bashing goes, I suppose when you're a huge, successful company you've got a target on your back and the .01% of time when you screw up there's somebody ready to take you to task for it. To me they're just a 21st century version of the Sears catalog. I suppose they had their share of haters 100 years ago too. :confused3:

You should get an email almost immediately after placing an order confirming it that shows the order number.

Sometimes I get a confirmation email, sometimes not. Almost never even close to immediately, sometimes not even the same day. Usually (but not always) get one when it ships.

... status as "Departed Shipping Partner Facility, USPS Awaiting Item". That status hasn't changed in 7 days. Amazon note says "Sorry for the delay. If you don't receive your shipment today, request a refund tomorrow". It sounds like the Amazon shipping partner (AKA Amazon) lost the package in route to USPS.
I would interpret that a little differently. Amazon lets outside vendors list on Amazon and it sounds like that vendor prepared a shipping label, triggering the 'Departed' notice - when in fact nothing was shipped. A look at the detailed shipping history should reveal if USPS, UPS, etc says they ever got possession.

Some of my co workers recently ordered gaming chairs that were listed by a seller on Amazon as 10 dollars, but they were in fact 240 dollars each. They have been shipped as of today so Im anxious to see if the seller actually owned up to the goof or sent them something entirely different :)
For $10 they may receive doll-house size salesman's models.

All of the online sales businesses AND the shippers are seeing increased business. This has resulted in them hiring untrained employees. Mistakes are bound to increase.

I actually got a honest tracking update on a package today that stated a routing error occurred that may cause a delay. This is the second time I've had a package make it to MY distribution center then sent off to a different city.

This tells me the "orders" were never actually transacted...you may think they have been but if the transaction protocols were actually executed there would be at least a digital record...
Most online retail transaction require three or four parties...the buyer, the seller, the credit card company and the third party processor...
Even if a sale is "canceled"...the CC will still be charged and then credited...there will be a record if a transaction was actually executed...

I would check the browser etc you are using and possibly the network connection...

Agree. I think the last step of any automated order is emailing the confirmation to you. If you don't see it promptly, log back in and look at your purchase history.

I agree that the transactions aren't actually happening, but it definitely isn't a network or browser issue, at least I don't see how it possibly could be, considering when I click the button that says "place order" it loads another page that says "Your order has been placed successfully!"

If it does not return a unique confirmation page with a confirmation number or code...it could be a cached page...if there IS a confirmation number it should be traceable....

Once a credit card is used there is no canceling...the card account gets charged and then credited if a transaction is canceled after the fact...

I assume the "ghost orders" are occurring with multiple vendors and multiple products. Maybe the orders are still pending, so filter your orders by selecting pending and see if Amazon notes why your order has not been processed. You should recieve a confirmation email within 10 mins after placing order. If not, then recheck all your account information to insure everything is accurate. Double check everything.

Unfortunately that's not it. I had 2 items on the order, and both were listed as "shipped by Amazon" on the product pages. Both were coming in one package according to the tracking info sent to me by Amazon. The shipping partner was listed as "Amazon" but USPS never received the package. Amazon site now says "Your package may be lost" and "We're very sorry your delivery is so late. Although it may still arrive, you can request a refund now" along with a "Get Refund" button. Ok, not a big deal because these things happen. But when I select the Get Refund button, it takes me to an Order Details page with no options for a refund. There is no option to contact anyone for assistance from Amazon. The only options they list are for returns but I can't return anything for a refund when I didn't receive it. Round and round I go through links on their site with no way to get my order reshipped or get a refund. I have always defended Amazon because I loved the access to so many products and have never had an issue, but this might be my tipping point. All I can do now is give it another day to see if the Get Refund link takes me to a page to request a refund. The order was paid by Amazon gift card so I can't even get my credit card company to help.

They hide it pretty well, but if you drill down through the Help pages deep enough, you'll eventually get to a 'Live Chat' button. It used to be under a help topic like 'everything else' or something like that. Unlike most companies, their "live Chat' is usually pretty effective in solving problems.

Far bottom of most pages, lower right corner ....

'Let us Help you'

Last selection .. 'Help'

Far left bottom corner selection: 'Need More Help?" Hover over that and you'll see 'Contact Us'

Thank you! I'll dig deeper.
Thanks Diggin It. I did find a Help option, and a Need More Help option within that. It opened a Chat window and I had a credit issued to my gift card within 30 seconds! Their chat is automated, intuitively knowing what I needed and requiring me to select answers or questions from a several options they post after each response. If you've ever played the electronic game called "20 questions", it's very similar. And the results are similar as well, leaving you asking yourself "how did they know that?". I'm surprised they don't offer that help in a more prominent spot on the website. So, apparently they pulled me back in and I'm not going to rag on them at least not today. And I reordered the same two items, which are now scheduled for delivery Oct 14. We shall see. :)

It happened to me then I realized that I never hit the PLACE ORDER button. I swear I did but I look at thge order and it still in the cart. I think sometimes they have a PLACE ORDER button pop up twice and you need to make sure you really, really hit the final PLACE ORDER button.

I ordered an $800.00 Excavator coupler and after a month of it not showing up I called and they traced it. It came up LOST.
I ordered another on showed up in a week.
Then the original order showed up 2 moth after placing the order. I refused it and a week later they wanted to deliver it again, same truck, same driver.
I said I refused this last week with you look at your paperwork. OH!
That piece weighed about 100 pounds plus the pallet and it's been running around the country for months.

I've had orders shipped through UPS bounce around the country. The tracking showed it going to three different locations and back to the originating location before getting back on track to me. Even had one package routed through Porto Rico. I have no idea why. Perhaps there was an open spot on that flight. UPS is bad but FedEx is worse when it comes to delivery. FedEx won't even deliver to my house. They throw (literally throw) the package inside the fence line down in front and claim it was delivered to a "secure location". There's no gate. My driveway opens to a state route traveled by hundreds a day. Anyone could walk away with it. Also had an overnight package through FedEx delivered to the wrong address. They claimed it was delivered. I said who signed for it? It wasn't me. I ended up calling the sheriff to go get my package. (Four days it took to get an overnight.) And it was opened by the people that got it. Creeps.

Besides Amazon's 1-2 day Prime service, USPS provides the fastest and most reliable delivery option out here--Typically 3 days. Amazon brings my stuff right to my door. And my driveway is about 1/4 mile from the road. I like the Prime. I probably have 10 orders or more a month. It pays for me to have Prime and get the 1-2 day deliveries. And I live out in the sticks.
