I saw an article somewhere today that described the lumber issue in terms of some mills shutting down in the early part of the pandemic, which caused less supply, coupled with increased demand as people spent their vacation money staying home and working on home projects. Kind of makes sense in that light.

I've seen a lot of other industries going through the same pains. The guitar industry is having their best sales year ever, but the higher demand makes for fewer deals and less inventory for consumers.

Good evening all. 50F for the start, clear sky, windy, and low humidity. Windy day, mostly clear sky, and high temp of 77F. Had big trouble getting out of conserving energy mode. Did manage to clean some of the windows outside, and back porch. Also found 3 gopher tunnels, an refilled them with dirt and water No reaction from gopher yet. :drink: I borrowed some gopher traps to try

Drew know what you mean about getting return phone calls, have small handy man job, called one guy twice on a recommendation, he never called back. Called another no call back, but saw him splitting wood 2 days later stopped talked to him and now I am on the list, hope it is the I will work on these projects lists

RNG hope the direct fire fighting helps, the washer fluid is one example why I don't like in California
Ted wish you could get some rain, nice sons removed old decking from premises. Not a fan of steel decking on trailer less friction helping hold things in place.
Don nice job on weather stripping even if job did not go as planned. Nice you don't need reservations for gym now., hoe they can maintain spacing.
Ken sounds like progress being made, good luck with new garden location.
RS hope you get the yoke off, and new bearings/seals.

Stop me if you've heard this story ...
I installed a combination digital/pipe organ at a big mega church in Chino CA about 12 or so years ago. It is located right across Hwy 83 from a long row of cattle farms. I suppose it's fine when the wind is blowing from the west, which it was not the entire time I was there. Literally tens of thousands of cows just across the road. That was nothing short of unpleasant.

Could that be the "bandini" highway?

Replaced most of the vacuum lines on the van with new silicone tubing, and replaced the Back Pressure Regulator in the process. Once warmed up, the EGR started working, so it's all set for a smog retest next week.


Neighbor dropped by with a piece of drill rod he bought to replace a shaft on his grandfather's saw mill. Needed a couple of key ways cut, so I took care of that for him. He wanted to pay me for the work, but I just told him to start keeping track of the hours and he can help me out next time I need it. I also had to tell him I lost one of the keys; spent an hour looking for it, but he said the GF has a drawer full of 'em. Can't imagine where that key got to, but sure enough it'll show up next time I'm looking for something else.:mur: Think I'll drop by his place today and get a look at that mill. He told me it has three giant circular blades on it, so it sounds like quite the contraption...

Could it be that the vanagon might get to be kaliforny legal????? Lost key is hiding in the mill's T'slot

Well, I got the front yard cut and promptly got myself a huge rock on the side of the driveway. Bent a blade.
No more grass cutting until I replace the blade on Monday.

Make sure crankshaft isn't bent. Happens often. Taryl on youtube bent one back straight enough.

I was driving through town in the 35mph zone, taking my daughter home after a wally world trip, and the motor shut off like someone took the key out of the ignition. I armstrong steered it over to a parking lot, tried to restart it a few times but it would only gurgle on 1 or 2 cylinders and die....got us a ride home. I did a little praying and started googling youtube videos for my situation, and 1 popped up that lasted about 31 minutes....A guy working on a friend's car.....I skipped through most of his troubleshooting procedure, to see him pulling out the mass airflow sensor, and it had a moth on it. Surely that would be too easy for it to be my problem...Got back to the car this morning and popped it out. YEP, there was a tiny insect, bigger than a knat, but smaller than a house fly, stuck on the thin platinum wire. I blew it off, plugged it in, said some prayers, and she fired right up!!! The video guy showed where his customer's air filter had popped out of it's groove, but mine is fitted still perfectly. Need to look a little closer for possible leaks, and vacuum out the air filter box.

good morning all.
53 out now going up to 77 today, nice sunny day.

Spent the last hour going through Amazon picking out replacements for all the things sold, mostly kitchen utensils, which I wish had been kept. Pots, pans, flatware, muffin tins, dishes, glasses, mops, the list seems endless. The irony of this is I had an enormous amount of kitchen equipment, because that's what my wife wanted and I gave her for birthdays and Christmas. And it all got sold or given away while I was in hospital. So literally starting over. Well no more place settings for twelve, half that will do me just fine now. At least my artwork and clothes were kept...I think.
I'll know on Friday when I get to my brother's home in VA and see what made it to his basement. Other than the Instapot was told no kitchen equipment or supplies made it, but not putting Amazon order in til I eyeball everything to be sure. Also have to start from scratch with gardening tools, they can wait until Spring though.

can't quite justify a BX with a cab to mow my lawn. Yet...

I have a few chores to get done today but not much. Hope you all have a nice day.

42 outside this AM and heading to a nice 72 sunshine sort of day.

Will fill the remaining emptiness in the dumpster today. And get it out of here before more rains show up. Only came across two black snakes while working on the porch deck. One was too big and fast to move, the other got dropped off further up front. I thanked them for the mice control but told them to find a new home.

Have a nice hole in the front foundation I came across. So today is mortar mix day. Oh, and I found an original concrete stair block. Need a sledge hammer to break it out, so I will just leave it in place. Another electrician is suppose to come by today. I also found another wire coming around the house in lead pipe that appears to go to a socket. This is a WTH moment. We did a complete rewire when we rebuilt, so I have no idea how we missed this one.

On lumber prices, if you can find PT wood, expect double prices. I went with a premium grade wood from a supplier I have dealt with over the years. for a 2x6x16 I gave up $31 dollars a board. That's triple what I wanted to give, but it is superb quality and I actually have it sitting in the driveway. Supply is not readily available and most places say March of 2021 may be better.

Oh, my RTV sprung a leak on the hydro cylinder line. No dump bed use for a while. One battery, one tire and one hydro-line in 16 years of ownership. Wow.

Good morning all. The sheep have been clearing up the edges of the far hayfield for the last few days. I have had to bring them back to the shedding pens at short notice and didn't want to take Max with me as there are lots of cut thistles lying on the ground. Sometimes moving them on more than one field at a time on my own without a dog can be hard work. So pleased to discover they were not only eager to come out, but also then willing to pass right through another field of very tempting grass without any fuss.

After living with sheep for 17 years the only thing I found predictable about their behaviour is that more often than not it is unpredictable. :confused3: :laughing:


Kyle, fascinating for an insect that size to be able to get in there and screw up the airflow sensor. You should be able to keep those scientists at your work happy for days in pondering over the question of "Does a moth's body on a hot platinum wire act as an insulator, or a heat sink?" :confused2:

First cup of coffee is cooling. 46° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 68° with mix of sun and clouds. Got friends boat out of water. Before doing that we played with my drone. Got a great video of lake and house they are remodeling. Left memory chip with him. Then had lunch and talked RV's for awhile before heading home. We did a couple of trips across USA together in our RV's. Good times. No plans for today. Need to check list.

Looking, I have replace battery in my tractor one time in 20 years. Current one is 6 years old.

Drew, quick hitch for PTO looks good. The best thing I have bought for my kitchen has been the Breville Smart Oven. I do not see a BX with a Cab. Maybe you could start the trend.

Ripties, the joys of remodeling a older home. My boat friend is remodeling a 100 year old house. Many surprises.

Rick, even a common 2X4X8 has doubled price. I need 6 of them. Will be $40 for them.

Mostly, not sure our governor gets it. She was on notional news complaining that it was the State Supreme Court that was the problem. Trip to lake where boat was is 15 minutes away.

Kyle, interesting car repair. Hope I can remember it. If and when my car has that problem. Maybe never change filter when bugs are around.
