Good morning! 55˚F heading to 85˚F, sunny skies.

FireWise brush clearing this morning. I noticed an old barbed wired cattle fence in the area we are to be working so besides my sawzaw (I'm the large branch guy) I'll be taking my fence removal equipment. When we ran across fences during the trail making I was surprised that the people out here do not know how to roll up barbed wire. Of course on the farm I replaced all my fence and rolled up 12 miles (4 strands X 3 miles) of old wire so I guess I'm the most experienced and the motions come naturally. My dad taught me how to roll it without it coming undone. I had miles of experience at his place also.

Kyle, that is the first time I have heard of that sort of problem with a sensor, amazing a bug could disable your car. That reminds me after my Mom/cousin runs to your county I have tons of bugs to clean from the front windshields and bumpers. We don't have the bug problem that bad in this county, or is it that we do, but we have a lot more cars to spread the bug splatter about. We probably have 1 bug per car but you have 100 bugs per car because we have 100 more cars per mile of road. hmm I see a bug study in my future.

EDIT: I just did a search on YouTube. There is not one video on the secrete of how to roll up barbed wire the way my Dad taught me. No wonder people out here are clueless. All it requires is a thick pair of gloves, an initial 3 foot loop tied off and constantly switching the wire to the alternating opposite outside of the roll as you are rolling.

Good morning all. The sheep have been clearing up the edges of the far hayfield for the last few days. I have had to bring them back to the shedding pens at short notice and didn't want to take Max with me as there are lots of cut thistles lying on the ground. Sometimes moving them on more than one field at a time on my own without a dog can be hard work. So pleased to discover they were not only eager to come out, but also then willing to pass right through another field of very tempting grass without any fuss.

After living with sheep for 17 years the only thing I found predictable about their behaviour is that more often than not it is unpredictable. :confused3:

Kyle, fascinating for an insect that size to be able to get in there and screw up the airflow sensor. You should be able to keep those scientists at your work happy for days in pondering over the question of "Does a moth's body on a hot platinum wire act as an insulator, or a heat sink?" :confused2: :)

Maybe both? I imagine the incoming air cools the wire predictably, whether it be a linear or exponential curve, but the bug inhibiting the flow allows the wire to get too hot....So, an insulator would be my guess?

Even sheep are unpredictable in these times...

Car ran fine yesterday, but won't know for sure if the bug removal was the whole problem. It has stumbled before after long periods of idling, and I could turn it off and restart it to get it back inline. It may be time to give the intake a good cleaning.

Haven't had to buy any wood for a while. I wonder if the forest fires, storm destruction, covid or something else are all playing a role.

I'm guessing they think a rope tied tarp is cool???? I must be getting old, I think a nicely shaped hood would be cooler and more practical than messing with a tarp each time

Good morning,
the temp is 47°F and going to 55. Wind SSW 13 gusting to 21 mph. 40% chance of showers.

I've got a dump run scheduled for this morning and then take the daughter-in-law to the dentist this afternoon.

One would think that with the transition from small square bales of hay and straw to the 4x5's and the 5' round bales that there would be an abundance of bale elevators for sale...NOT! I've had to go out and buy a new 16' elevator for chucking the firewood into the basement. $7,039.90 tax in. I also have a new rock bucket coming, that will be about 5 weeks out.

Next Tuesday is 'change over' day, I switch from summer tires to snows.

Not much else going on today.

Stay safe all

I guessing they think a rope tied tarp is cool???? I guess I'm getting old, I think a nicely shaped hood would be cooler and more practical and no fenders? Every little bit of water on the road will require another wash. Too labor intensive for me.

At mom's place we have it leased out for making hay. They make about 1/2 round and 1/2 square. They use the round bales for feeding cattle and sell the square bales to the people with horses. They also sell the square bales to the feed stores.

Don, like a number of street rods not sure it even has a hood, so tarp is for hauling behind motorhome. Yes, this looked a bit rough...
