I know several people who home schooled their kids, generally for religious reasons. Often the kids graduate a year or two early; possibly because they learn at their own pace, plus their parents are taking an interest in their schooling. As some had mentioned they do miss out on the social aspects yet often that's the reason parents home school in the first place; to keep them away from those other elements. They do have activities with other families who share similar interests/concerns, so aren't completely isolated.

Very true. I was home schooled as well. We do our best to ensure our children socially interact with other kids (church, extended family, etc...), but it's certainly something to be mindful of.

That happens in a public school probably more than most people realize, but home schoolers get blamed more.

Very true. I was home schooled as well. We do our best to ensure our children socially interact with other kids (church, extended family, etc...), but it's certainly something to be mindful of.

In school they are taught that "Spanking is Abuse" and "You aren't the Boss of me"! They learned otherwise and are better adults today for it.

Maybe if indoctrination and education are mutually-exclusive, so "not really" most of the time. Working alone I taught my son right from wrong, to have a conscience, and to treat others well. I left his religious and political indoctrination to him and the public school World he grew up in.

We have to give kids credit where due for learning some things at their own pace, and show patience when they appear to digress form our norms and personal teachings.

btw, Mike lives in a cozy MC neighborhood in the South side of Toledo, OH. We wave to his neighbors when I visit. Few wave back. It's how society is nowadays.

Oh, and when I moved here 19 yrs ago two neighbors introduced themselves by asking if I'd sell them strips adjacent to their lot before giving their names. They're at it again. I won't give them more yard to park their crap in esp bordering mine. I tell them to ask the next owner.
