How many tractors in your neighborhood?

Not to 'black cat' you; I had to have one of my horses put down (Vet said kidney failure = they deteriorate quickly). Fortunately my other neighbour had borrowed his work's excavator to do some work around his property and he agreed to come over and dig the grave/fill it in. (a 'slab' of his favourite libation as payment)

After the Vet put 'Jack' down (I held his headstall during the injection) and my neighbour was digging the grave, I swapped my FEL bale spikes for the fork-lift tines. I was able to pick 'jack' up a slip him into the grave... he came to rest looking as if he was naturally curled down for a nap. It couldn't have worked out better.

You help out a neighbour as needs be.

I live 12 miles from the nearest town. It is only 2000 people. I live on the same place I was born on 64 years ago. 80 acres. I own 5 tractors. My next door neighbor has 5. Only have one or two households in our community that don't have a tractor. Most have more than one. I work about 5 acres of truck patch every year.

Only 4, 3 SCUTs, 1 CUT that I know of. Lots of farmers close with all types though.

Think there are only the 3 of us with compact tractors in this ~120 house neighborhood with 2 to 12 acres, but there are 2 farms on the road in and another farm where the Hessian POWs were.

My close neighbours all have one each. The produce farms in my area are usually syndicates and have many tractors. I have counted 13 tractors in one paddock when picking cabbages. John Deere seems to be the most dominant. Each tractor has one implement so they don't have to change them.
There are quite a few tractors here with no front wheels. They have permanent trailers fitted and steer by independent braking.

Over at the farm a bit over a dozen (13-14) and another joining the flock shortly a JD 4430.
Most neighbors have at least one or several.

Were we lived a few months ago there were strange looking tractors on the asparagus farms, huge skinny wheels and what looked like a single bed frame either side, the pickers lay on the 'beds' and cut the asparagus (below the ground) as the tractor crawled along, saves a lot of back breaking work bending all day.

Define "Small." My guess is that it still will be as big or bigger than what some of us have for our only tractor.

I will try and get a pic or vid for you but it may take time. Most properties are virtually in recess at present. Very quiet.
As far as benefits goes, I would think that they can turn a lot quicker than normal steering. My brother from NZ visited recently and his eyes popped out of his head when he saw them. Can't get punctures if they aint got wheels..

Do a search on Valmet forwarders and you'll find some pictures similar to what he is talking about. A lot of those steer by means of hydraulic cylinders between the trailer and the tractor, but the concept is similar.

I've seen a few old 2-wheel tractors around, but they are not common in any place I've lived. At one point, I was following a guy on YouTube who was converting and old 2WD tractor into a 2 wheel tractor with trailer, but I seem to have lost that link.

I'm at the end of 4 miles of dirt road in the woods of Vermont. It wasn't until after I got a tractor that I realized just about 1/3 of my neighbors on the worst/last road offshoot have tractors. Mostly smaller tractors, mostly smaller properties. Some have horses, some just use them for landscaping and mowing. Most have 10+ acres, I'd guess. Once you have enough land in the middle of nowhere with 10,000 neighboring trees dropping onto the road and property, it sure is nice to have a tractor.

Yeah, I was just trying to give him an idea of the concept, and could not find a good picture. I knew someone in upstate NY who had done that with an old tractor, but don't have any pictures.
