Your towing rigs and trailers

Been putting the new truck to work, finally got it under a gooseneck the other day. My father-in-law had about 500 small square bales on the ground, so we split them between the two trailers, neither fully loaded. Been nearly 3 years since I've pulled a G/N, sure missed it!

Like seeing a truck work.

I bought my gn about a year ago. Dad used to move cattle with one and always praised it over bumper. I bought a real fixer upper of an equipment hauler. It's been nice to have and a pleasure to pull. My issue is switching between it and a bumper utility for backing. I have a hard time switching. And nobody wants to wait on the road to let you back. Caught a new tail light last week on my ditch trying to rush the process. A rural road and I had 6 cars waiting. Everybody shows up when you need to back in.

Any estimates on weight ?

I think a bumper pull tracks tighter and backs better than a GN but there’s no comparison between how they handle. A GN is much better.

Not really, trailer is 14k rated, I've had a diesel dually F350 on it a few years ago, behind my other truck, but the load pictured, I've no idea. Pulled easy enough, on the 10 mile trip up the road, but no hills, so it wasn't a real test.

I look forward to future trips, I'll grab that trailer over my own bumper pull deck over any chance I can.

I got this one Saturday. It just hit the lot right before I got there. 4 miles on it so I am the only one test driving it. It's going to stay in my garage until I get a clear bra and ceramic coating on it. The smoke and expected rain will make a soupy acidic mess. So I will drive my old 2500HD diesel until then. I am going to keep it for the big loads. But this should pull my travel trailer and be a nice daily driver. If it struggles pulling the RV the big truck is still in nice shape so I can use it for the long trips over mountains and such.12051.jpg

And as far as gooseneck or bumper pull goes, bumper pull is the better choice until you get too heavy. Then you don't have a choice. A properly loaded bumper pull handles just fine. And you still have your bed. For loads like this.20200815_150247-3.jpg

I remember the days, recently, that only a semi could haul a load like that.

Impressive.

The fact that you load big logs up high in your bed kind of surprises me, as that is a really clean looking truck, not an old beater firewood hauler. It's pretty easy to bump a side rail or to have a log roll or even hit the rear window. I'm not that brave, all loads of that sort go in or on the trailer only. If I need to haul more, I use a bigger trailer. You must be a careful guy as your truck looks really clean.

If that top log slid forward hard enough it might total that truck.
