Found a product and took a chance. It's a rust converter called Black Star Rust Converter. Info looked promising. Got around to coating the frame on my 2104 3500 Ram. Wow! The frame looks as if new! This product doesn't require a top coat like others.(saves time and $) Living next to the Chesapeake Bay is hard on equipment! Got a 2001 1500 that's lived a hard life and many frame repairs! Might be something that can help others with life span on equipment. Very decent price for coverage and doesn't require sandblasting, just pressure washing to knock dirt off. Heavy scale can just but knocked off, not wire brushed! Hope it can help others!
P.S. Company that sells it also offers weed control products and other offers.

Been using rust converters since about the 70s. Now, the easiest one to find is Rustoleum's Rust Reformer. Comes in a spray can and includes black primer along with it. Turns the rust-colored iron oxide into black iron sulfide. Once did my Gravely snow plow with it where the paint had rubbed completely off. Never ever rusted.

Rust up here in Mass is largely due to the mag chloride they use on the roads in the winter...it's brutal. I have a 2017 F450 V10 with 7,000 miles on it. The rotors rusted and now pulsate under braking, the exhaust at the converter is rotted, the dump body hoist looks like it's 15 years old and rusty. ..and yesterday I got a tick from the drivers side manifold high means the studs rotted and need to be replaced. It goes in next Wednesday to the dealer for that. ...it may not come home with me...

I'm hoping the stuff I got will keep the rust at bay to preserve my investment! Haven't had to good success with the Rustoleum Rust Converter on my 1500! I keep everyone posted on how it holds up through the rest of the summer and of course once winter is over!
Must say that the color makes it look like I had a new frame put under it. 1/4 mile gravel drive along with the salt air will give it a good test. Reviews of offshore usage gives me great hope!

The best thing I've ever found for rust is to saturate with phosphoric acid(lowes/Home Depot for about $20.00 per gallon) then coat with POR-15. The best combination I have ever found.

Do you put a top coat over the POR15 if it’s exposed like on a trailer?

Yes. If the area is exposed it needs to be top coated. Once you apply the POR15 and it just gets tacky, it can be top coated with your choice of color. This provides the UV protection. Incredible stuff the POR but it doesn't handle long periods of sunlight unless top coated.

Thanks, that was my understanding. I have a quart waiting on me for a project.

The longest I've had a vehicle out here - 1982 Ford 1700. Had it 27 years before trading in for my 2009 Kubota M6040. The cutting edges on the bucket and rear blade showed only MINIMAL rust spots after all that time. Easily removed by use of the implement.

Absolutely NOTHING on my 2009 Kubota shows any rust spots. It's just too darn dry out here to rust.

Location, location, etc.............

This Black Star looks very similar to Rust-Oleum Rust Reformer. Both are water based milky liquids that convert rust to a back color form a polymer resin with a suggested top coat for harsh conditions. I can find the SDS for the Rust-Oleum product but not for Black Star. I wonder what the difference is?

The Rust Reformer actually converts iron oxide (rust) to iron sulfide, which is black, but it also contains some black primer. Stuff like this (without the primer added) since about the 1970s. They all work very well to stop rust.

Unfortunately my equipment gets to set out with Mother Nature. My Bush Hog holds water in areas regardless of how I park it thus it has some serious rusting & pitting issues. What product would be best for this? Please do not say a barn or shed!!!

Brand name is "OSPHO", I use it for all steel surfaces that start showing rust.

Boeshield T9 is excellent but pricey. U could try hosing it down with used motor oil every couple months for a less expensive option.

I use this- Gem Rust Killer Balandis Chemical Company

Spoke with the creator of this product due to my cutter slip clutch spring failing.
Quite the nice guy and chemist.
This product transforms the corrosion into inert metal ready to prime and paint.
Any questions email him, he responded to mine and we spoke on a Saturday. :drink:

Boeshield is a completely different product.
It basically sits on top of existing rust, to seal off air, and temporarily ****** corrosion.
LPS-3 and Wool Wax work similarly.
A "rust converter" actually reacts chemically with the rust, and acts as a primer for top coating.

The OSPHO and GEM Rust Killer are essentially the same thing - Phosphoric acid. The acid converts the rust (iron oxide) to iron phosphate which adheres to the steel much tighter than iron oxide and makes a really good primer. Also note, the oxide is converted to a phosphate so if there is no rust, no phosphate coating is formed.
