I had a guy send me the best, easiest, and fasted PTO adapter for a tractor to be reviewed on Tony's YouTube channel. I don't share much on the forum out of respect, but this is worth-while, and I think everyone will want one? I know I do!
The video for this premiers at 6pm CST on YouTube 6/5/2020

Tony thanks for the review and post, it is a bear to hook up the newer tractors pto because you cant rotate the pto shaft like we could on our older tractors. I will check out their web page.

I watch Tony's tractor adventure all the time. New to the forum and just got a TYM T474.

Well i bought one of those quick adapter, that thing solves my problem hooking up i use a tiller quite often in the summer months and a 6 ft finish mower and this makes it a easy job hooking up

All I did on my JD660 rototiller was take the slip ring off and install a lighter spring in the yoke. It's now quite a bit easier to install the pto shaft on the tractor.

If you watch in the video the installation procedure with that adapter is exactly the same as installing a pto shaft without the adapter.

Exactly.

I have connected quite a few pto shafts over the years and have seen the improvements in shielding meant to protect us from ourselves. While I have issues with much of the mandated safety requirements what I have seen with pto shafts is that with the required shielding they have become difficult to connect. Back when we had much less guarding they where easier to connect the more guarding the more difficult to connect as you have to be a contortionist to be able to flex your hands and wrist to work with many of the pto guards around today so it becomes tempting to remove them. The adapter shown above is easy to connect, however that same shaft without the bellows guard would be just as easy to connect.
A much less expensive change would be the;
"BARE-Co PTO Safety Guard"
There are several videos out showing how they work, I have not purchased any of there guards yet and I will admit to have a few completely unguarded shafts on some equipment (they are the easiest to hook up) as well as some with al sorts of different shields. I do plan on getting these for a couple of my implements, my generator and brush hog come to mind as prime candidates.
These would be in my mind a better solution then that fancy quick connect that extends beyond the pto guarding.

A long winded way to say I don't see the need for the fancy adapter when the issue can be taken care of for less.

A good knife takes care of the problem for me...

A huge issue is spline alignment. Many tractor and implement PTO shafts are impossible or difficult to hand turn. Looks like this device has 1 cog play to align the cogs and you never have to mess with the tractor or implement. Personally I wouldn't want to shorten PTO shafts.

I dont think you understand the problem installing the pto shaft on the newer tractors with electric pto, the pto shaft on my LS tractor cannot be rotated Like my older tractor pto could so that means when hooking up my finish mower or bush hog i have to hook up the three point lift the mower up get my wife to rotate the blades while i try to line up the splines that are marked in the pto shaft to try and make it easier to line it up now bear in mind that i am 83 and my wife in 82 getting under a bush hog to try and rotate the blades so guys yes it is worth the price even if i was 20 yrs younger on this newer type pto system.

So your tractor doesn't have a lever to put the PTO in Neutral? Tractors with multiple PTO speeds or with mid PTO, have a lever to switch between speeds or mid/rear PTO and will have a Neutral position too.

I can understand the age thing making it difficult to attach a pto shaft,
to be quite truthful if I am the only one going to use a piece of equipment I have removed shields,
they are much easier to connect to a tractor and the implement can be turned easily as without the guard you have access to the actual shaft,
it can be turned with wrench or slip a bar into the yoke and turn it.
Is an exposed pto shaft safe?
Not if you get anywhere near it with the tractor running.
These Bare-Co easy release pto shields will do away with that liability and still allow easy access to the actual pto shafting to turn it.
This page has a video showing them exposing the pto u joint and shaft it is a fairly simple device to install,
and still allow easier hooking up.

for less cost and it is possible to be fully shielded so the safety police can be ignored.

Have you tried rotating your tractors pto with the tractor shut off? some will turn then.

My tractors shields either flips up or comes off with a single pin. It's more an issue of getting spline alignment and tight tollerances. Once a device gets old and used often they slide on easier.

The videos for this fancy pto coupler still show the operator needing to rotate to connect/disconnect. If your equipment is unable to rotate, is it any better than without it?

Looks like the adaptor where the cogs engage freely turns back and forth 1 cog (slop). No turning of either shaft is needed to align cogs and slip together. Only a piece on the adaptor rotates.

Just got a new tractor with mid PTO and after reading this went out to check. No neutral but I can shift to mid PTO only and then rotate the rear PTO by hand.

Thanks.

Lou the shield is not the problem as it is removed and there is no lever to put shift it in neutral . The shaft wont move on this tractor with the engine off. I have a neighbor with a mahindra built by TYM that has a gear shift to put it in neutral so you can rotate the out put shaft.

On the question from rufdog the coupling has slots that will let you move back or forward just enough to couple up just as Mat4644 said , this thing is really a very well thought out pice of equipment that fits my needs to a T.

The only way i can see where a knife would come in to play is my wife might throw a kitchen knife at me if i ask her to get under a bush hog again to rotate the the shaft so i could hook it up.
