Michigan has 1/2 the population of Florida and twice as many deaths.

Florida has the beaches and college kids, plus Disney World, Universal, and is one of the winter "go to" spots for Canadians and northern US states,

Interesting. Wondering if the warmth and higher humidity is moderating the effect of the virus.

I think the wife and I are doing a "divide and conquer" today to do some shopping. We're both armed with sanitizer wipes and sanitizer hand lotion. We worked up our comprehensive lists and she'll tackle the groceries. I'll hit TSC for horse feed and fencing supplies and Lowes for hardware/paint supplies. We don't take it lightly either. Upon returning home, we'll remove shoes before entering house, wash hands, wipe things down before putting them away, wash hands again, throw clothes in wash, shower.

For the masks with no metallic parts, couldn't you just put them in a microwave to sterilize them?

I suspect there are probably lots of things one could do, but this is an area which is regulated by the Feds I'd imagine ... and there are all kinds of accompanying safety and liability issues.

I'm a very frequent visitor to Dunkin Donuts..prob 5-8 a day on average. ... I was thinking about how many cups they fill everyday...probably 150-300 per worker ( I'm guessing ) ...they put their hand on the lid of the cup..then that lid goes to your mouth.... think about all the workers, all the cups of coffee...the incredible potential for spread.

Too much thinking can hurt the head. :)

At a buck a cup, 8x30 is $240/mo .... get a really nice coffee pot and a few thermos containers to carry with you. You could probably even find a mobile brewer.

More like $2.00 bucks a cup so $480 a month maybe a new tractor payment....

Are folks thinking other hospitals will be less crowded, or that there's more tp there ?

After looking at the case load map FL just is not as loaded as NY. One case reported the wife winters in FL and her husband comes down each weekend. With NY now shut in if I was the husband I would want to leave NY and be with the wife in FL.

Older people do not winter in FL because the flu risk is higher there but because it LOWER. A few days ago it was 85F here in KY. If we can keep our numbers down hopefully hot weather will slow or stop the spread. Next winter could a killer because the corona virus will still be in the general population but there will be more that are resistant to getting it again we read.

People that live in areas where they can't piss off of the porch very well just have more risk.

No one is talking about all the moisture people breathe out into the masks during a days time. They become full of water vapor and people cough into them. Would you want to keep wearing it day after day? Would you wear someone else's mask?

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine calls for FDA to approve new technology to sterilize surgical masks; asks for help manufacturing PPE | wkyc.com

Private technology development company Battelle, based in Columbus, OH, has developed the technology to sterilize up to 160,000 used surgical masks per day for reuse ... just waiting on the FDA for approval ...
Note that the "private tech" Battelle is humongous.
Revenue: 6.2 billion USD
Number of employees: 3,200 (+29,500 from national labs)
I worked closely with them in the '90's.

It looks like the curve is getting steeper.

A medium coffee is $2.30 here. ..so figure 14-15.00 a day ...probably 425-450 a month...But I don't usually eat all day so no lunch money expense. Dinner is usually my one meal a day. Coffee is a appetite suppressant..

"Researchers also say that when patients show no symptoms, or mild symptoms, it is not because they have contracted a 'mild strain' of the virus.

Rather, differences in symptoms most likely have more to do with an individual's own immune system and general health. A strain that has little effect on one person could be deadly to another."

US coronavirus: Map shows how eight strains of raced around the world | Daily Mail Online

Lots of potential good news there it would seem ...

In one weeks time, Cases in the US went up 5x and deaths rose 6x. One or two weeks ago seems like years ago.......strange.

They have good coffee, although I get tired of the wait. You can't count pennies all of the time, especially with the hours you apparently work. Besids, I like my coffee hot; and once you open that thermos the remaining contents go cold fast.

If I drank that much coffee though, I would never sleep at night.

I always fill out thermos or carafe with boiling hot water for a few minutes before pouring in the coffee. That way it remains hot far longer, depending on how much remains in the thermos over time. This is also a good tip for during illness. Say you have a bad cold and sipping a little hot tea with honey and lemon (or broth) during the night calms your symptoms heating the thermos when you fill it saves you or your partner getting out of bed during the night.

I do the same, but it still doesn't help once you pour 16 ounces out of a 32 ounce thermos. Then there's those days when I haven't quite woken up yet before leaving the house... when I go to pour a cup all that comes out is my preheat water. I used to fill my thermos with boiling water and drop a couple of hot dogs in, for something warm at lunch time.
