Thanks Dave...of interest to me as I am a dual citizen and most of my family is still in Canada.

For the rest of you, Canada is about 10% our size wrt population, and 90% of Canadians lives within 100 miles of the US border.

Welcome.

Lots of cross-border folk in your area. One of the best engineers I worked with grew up in Windsor, worked for a while in Toronto, then went to work for Ford in Detroit.

I like to see data from more than one source. Another wizard I know sent me this one:

COVID-19 Canadian Outbreak

Not sure if it's been up here before....

I DO trust the leadership we have, especially at the federal level. ironically I would also trust the NY leadership if I lived there. What do you think about that?

Well not wanting to be the one to get this thread closed down, the only comment I'll make about that statement is;
Cuomo is a very articulate and polished speaker who sounds very good up front.

does taking zinc all by itself have a positive effect on the immune system?
I have a full bottle, wonder if I should start taking it.

General immunity - us Northerners's are typically Vitamin D deficient, esp. this time of year. Better half and I have been taking Vit D supplements recent Winters, and found it helpful. Again, watch daily dosage levels, as too much is harmful.

(Not just a Northerner thing though.... many of us don't spend much time in the sun today, and even if you do, IIRC our skin processes less Vit D from the sun as we age).

Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't like MANY of Cuomo's policies, but in this case he seems to be doing a good job.

Will the "stimulus package" be enough to bury the dead, feed the living, pay the bills, and keep the jobs?

Who knows, probably not for long.

I think it's important for all of us regardless what State or Country we live in to judge our leaders/managers on what they are doing today. Not on what they did last year that pi**ed us off.

St Joseph Missouri went into lockdown. Mission essential movement only. I respect that and wouldn't even consider driving to that town for anything less than a life/death situation. It's irrelevant whether I think it is justified or not. It's irrelevant who made the decision. They are in charge. Not me. :)

He did do a good job with his speech. We need more of that, there are still people out there acting like nothing is going on. This whole thing is bringing to light so many vulnerabilities that we have as a country.

Locally some of the remote counties are tracing their first COVID cases to residents who went to Seattle (after notices were put out), the first hot spot in the country.

I think you are wrong on count 1. :2cents:

After moving to the "North Country" of New York (we are farther North than some parts of Canada) I asked my Dr. about testing for Vitamin D deficiency. His response was, "we don't bother testing, because EVERYONE up here is deficient. Take a daily supplement of 1,000 mg."

Personal prejudices are of no help to anyone in times of crisis...having no trust in leadership can lead to despair...nobody needs that right now...

No,he got them from me. I went well prepared with info I gleaned from several sources, including dosages. At 70 and high risk with cancer and lung problems we decided it couldn't hurt. Killing this virus is a two step approach. The HCQ weakens the tough outer shell so other drugs can enter and destroy it.Zinc works well so I'm going with that instead of Zpak that has potential heart risks as California mentioned.

:us-indiana: Fellow Hoosier I wish you the best of luck with the drug. Hopefully no side effects will occur.

I've watched 3 of his press conferences and would agree. He doesn't know when to stop though. At the time he should stop he can't help but go on and on endlessly with family stories.

Pretty typical 'full of himself' politician. Nothing new with that. We all have stories to tell.

I find it both amazing and disturbing at the same time, how fast this country fell apart. Amazing how fragile the economy is and disturbing how cavalier people take this situation. A little common sense goes a long way but the general populace today exhibits very little common sense.

After 9/11 Bush said the best and most practical response that individuals can do is keep on shopping. At the time I thought that was a strange answer. Now seeing the economic impact today, I see he had good advice from his economic advisors.

Just one voice from trenches.

I can't help but think the lasting effects will be with us for years to come... medical and non-medical such as social order economic and international relations.

My background is hospital based engineering for the last 29 years.

That is so true I expect we are going to realize. Finally today TN is going into shutdown after visitors have cared the corona virus into area hospitals. The local church that decided to not follow the Governor's advice lead to 150 members being exposed. The local hospital never closed to visitors until after it was already inside of the hospital knowing the Governor's orders. Prior to a few days ago people could just walk in and go to any patient room they wished. It may take some churches, hospitals, etc being sued but things will never go back to the old way if these places want to protect their bank accounts even is they do not care about members, patients, etc.

While this is much bigger impact in lives and wealth loss than 9/11 we will see changes like we saw after 9/11 that will remain in place for the rest of our lives.

L.A. County gives up on containing coronavirus, tells doctors to skip testing of some patients - Los Angeles Times

Yes, but now going shopping can get you infected...
