took my shower this morning, shaved and realized I really needed a haircut.
Well that isn't going to happen anytime soon, don't think a barbershop is a particularly safe place to be right now.
Better go find my little clippers. Ear lobes, hide!

Worried about my sister in California, just North of SF, luckily fairly remote in Muir Beach.
She was amazed that the beach yesterday had all kinds of people on it
and the parking lot was almost full. ?? While their hospitals are running out of face masks...

That is one significant difference between how China can effect results better than we can. Our "freedoms" might hurt us, but there are many who will protect the freedom to chose what works for them regardless of the effect on others. The vindictive side of me hopes people like that succumb to the Darwin effect.

I saw an excellent post on another forum that points strongly to this virus being released on purpose to evaluate it outside the lab and in the real world. The author is well respected, has never been a "tin foil hat" person, and has extensive military experience involving bio-warfare. But even if it was not intentionally released, you can be sure China is evaluating how our system of government is responding. They are measuring the relative impact on our economy vs the impact on their economy. Our relative death rate is a secondary item of interest. It lines up with my initial opinion on what happened; but I tried to be critical of it none the less. Scary but being scary does not make it BS.

Last night I reached out to someone who has been a nurse for over 35 years. They had their first patient (70YO) die yesterday. She is concerned with both how contagious this is, and how quickly it can progress to death. She is not a doctor...but has seen a lot...this is different.

I don't live in a remote area but I do like a good offense. After watching Laura Ingram last Mon nite I went tues morning and ask my doc for a scrip of hydroxychloroquine. He called it in and I got it. Have 10 200 mg tabs I can use for 5 days if I get this virus,or 1 tab per week for 10 weeks to keep from getting it. Take with Zinc for full effect.I'm good

Perhaps the Dr. got his instructions from the French?

No,he got them from me. I went well prepared with info I gleaned from several sources, including dosages. At 70 and high risk with cancer and lung problems we decided it couldn't hurt. Killing this virus is a two step approach. The HCQ weakens the tough outer shell so other drugs can enter and destroy it.Zinc works well so I'm going with that instead of Zpak that has potential heart risks as California mentioned.

Went to Lowes first thing this morning. Didn't want to, but needed to pickup my online tile order (shipping would have been $90) to finish my backsplash. I wore gloves and the whole time I was in there, I was more on edge than ever and we don't even have any confirmed cases in our county yet. It's going to be a long while for me to adjust to this new normal.

Did you report yesterday or day before that you have a sore throat and/or cough and/or something similar?

Wife has been cutting my hair for 20 years since my barber died. Of course, every year, the job requires less and less time for some reason. :D

My wife has cut my hair for over 20 years. A good Oster clipper will make for a more uniform hair cut. https://www.amazon.com/OSTER-Classic-Universal-Clipper-76076010/dp/B00070E8LA/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1HYXP1ERYY98N&dchild=1&keywords=oster+clippers&qid=1584887582&sprefix=Oster%2Caps%2C207&sr=8-2

I also use to cut my 4 boys hair until they earned enough money to go to a barber.

does taking zinc all by itself have a positive effect on the immune system?
I have a full bottle, wonder if I should start taking it.

<snip>
Their intensive solutions aren't a good fit for here. But for them, the life of the majority isn't as disrupted as our lockdown. Hopefully there are some examples that would be helpful here.
<snip>
But if we self isolate we may survive, if we don't what do we miss?

When this started coming to light "they" were saying that within a year nearly everybody will have been exposed, and our bodies will have started creating antibodies to combat the virus. Allegedly that's the big difference between CV-19 & the flu.
Only those who survive will create antibodies.

BTW, I have been surprised no medical personnel have said anything on these threads....or maybe I missed it. Are they worried? Anyone out there willing to share?

Last night I got a call from my son. He is in a serious relationship with a lady that works at a hospital in NYC. She is scared. Has been talking about leaving her job and driving to Michigan before the city goes on lockdown. Do not know enough about her to tell if she is a flake or just completely stressed out and over reacting...or she knows something.
My doctor and dentist relatives have "gone to ground", stocked up on beans and bullets and plan on waiting it out.

I understand the practical limitations with trying to test a lot of people, but there is a large amount of useful data that comes from doing so. If you aren't testing, then how do you track the progression of the disease, where it is moving, and if/when the peak has passed? Without this information, how do you know when it is safe to lift/implement bans?

Quite frankly, I'm surprised they haven't instituted random testing in the population just to try to get a handle on the number of people that are asymptomatic. Purely for the sake of argument, if the number of people that are asymptomatic is 98%, the policy response will likely be much different than if it is 2%.

Good data informs good policy. Poor data informs poor policy.
Good policy requires good managers.
Unfortunately we seem to have neither.

Sr. WHO official (Irish Doc, can't remember the name....) was being interviewed circa last week...... Well spoken, as you'd expect..... his phrase that stuck with me was "Speed (of response) trumps Perfection". Personal knowledge, hard-earned fighting Ebola.

Speed of action..... matters in many things. Singapore and Taiwan IIRC started their testing and measures in early January; last I saw, those early interventions served them well.

Spring Breakers still getting drunk and stoned on the beaches..... I don't expect much from them (if they think about it at all, it's probably not much more than "It's only old people dying..... Party On" but I wish some seriously bad karma on the people who Do have the Power to shut this down, but Chose not to.

Get informed, and take responsibility for your own life and actions........ "regular" life would be better if that happened more widely in society and as some examples have shown in these threads, that discipline is in short supply with some people during this extended crisis.

Waiting till you see health-care workers wearing bandanas is too late.....

Spread it out, google zinc virus. We've been taking it for years and it seems to work for rhinovirus. I'm currently taking it because I don't want to be weakened by a normal virus AND then get covid-19.

Since one of the first things this virus seems to do is cause a fever I'm going to try to do like I did in the early '70's
Keep cool
(and with social distancing)
and spaced out.

I have read some people suggesting that we just let the virus take its course but I wonder about the morality of letting people die who we could save.

Chris

Don't kid yourself, that happens everyday in America and always has. Many get left behind so the few can have more.

I guess i started some of this.... with what doctor (pulmonologist & critical care specialist) Roger Seheult, MD thought).

This from back around March 12th. and maybe a few Coronavirus threads ago.

Study was in Vitro he was looking to. He said There was No randomized double blind human test trials, but Some patients were prescribed in South Korea where deaths were far less per infection. once again no double blind studies yet.

Make of it what you will ... Yes I Bought a bottle of Zinc.

I think we have very good managers. At all levels. For our society type, best that we could have ever hoped for.

Mnuchin said this virus fiasco will last 10-12 weeks. He also said a family of 4 will get about $3000. I say, be careful and spend wisely.

Yep. This will require a high level of maturity. That's $300 per week. Not much for a family of 4. A frivolous trip to Wal-Mart will wipe that out.

I too have found some benefit of taking Zinc lozenges early in a fight with an oncoming "regular" cold. (IE. I start taking at the early onset of a sore throat).

Main thing with zinc compounds, don't exceed the daily dosage amounts; toxic in high concentrations.

A death in the family also is a big cost and is hard to deal with in these times. My MIL died one month ago and nothing is "cheap" in the process. Trying to go through probate and selling property with COVID present is proving nearly impossible. Talking directly to insurance agents, debtors, and bank employees to tie up loose ends is very trying as you do it through a window or crack of a door. Giving out "stimulus" money is a short sighted good feeling that won't last very long. We need good leadership we can TRUST and solid movement forward to give us hope.

I DO trust the leadership we have, especially at the federal level. ironically I would also trust the NY leadership if I lived there. What do you think about that?
