Trailer Anti-Theft....

This old hill ground I own makes maneuvering my new (to me) trailer tough, so I've experimented with different spots on my 6A, trying to find a spot that's best for storage.The spot I like best is along my shop drive in a fairly level area unfortunately it's also close to the road, making it a target for thieves..... I have security cameras but I'd need to install another camera to shoot my shop drive to the street... What anti-theft devices are out there for trailers?

Do you have a fence and a gate? That is first.

Is it a bumper pull trailer or GN?

Even though I have locks for the hitch, I still park mine in a corner with a wall in the rear and on one of the sides. Then I place a heavy pallet with a cage of a IBC tote full of firewood in front of the bed but on the side of the tongue. When I need the trailer, I just use the tractor with the forks or the electric forklift and take the pallet out of the front.

I attached a drawing so you can get what I'm saying.

It's still not impossible to steal but at least makes life a lot harder for them.

I agree with insurance. Should not be much. I will use heavy lock, if pintle hook run safety chains through the hitch to prevent a hook up locking chains so they can not be pulled out. You can run heavy chain from one wheel to another and lock, my brother in law has larger enough hole in his deck in center of deck over the axle and locks the axle to large tie down anchor screwed into the ground below. Hole is small enough and far enough from side of trailer makes it difficult to get most tools to lock to cut. I have used empty 20 pound propane tank. May drive off with it...not sure how results would be on paved road.

You can get a GPS tracker for cheap and mag mount it under the deck (wood, not metal). The device will notify you via text message if the trailer moves. Then just call the cops and have them go get it and the perps too.

That's kind of what I do with my GN trailer. Just bring a pallet of wood and place it under the hitch.
If I used the trailer often I may not go through that but using it once in a while I just fork the load out and hook up and go.

I usually don’t use the jacks on my pintle hook and set the hitch on the ground. It’s over 1000 pounds on the hitch so I figure there’s close to zero chance of someone lifting it back up.

Seldom use it.... Bought it to avoid paying $100 to have my Gator or B3200 hauled literally three miles to the dealer(s)...

i put a chain through the wheels. i know someone could drag it, but if they are that dedicated, i am not sure they would get too far down the road before they had an issue.

My 14k trailer is 100% theft proof if anyone comes on my property with intent to intent steal it.

The secret is to put it somewhere else! It’s actually at a friends where it has a gate, security (with dogs) and cannot be seen from the road.

Also add it to your car insurance. Our 12K dump is about $20 a year and at least it is covered if something happens.

i put a chain through the wheels. i know someone could drag it, but if they are that dedicated, i am not sure they would get too far down the road before they had an issue.

Be sure it's a heavy enough chain and lock. I used a 1/4" chain and padlock. When I went to move it, i'd forgotten about the chain. All that happened was a loud "pop" and hardly a hesitation in movement. The padlock popped and I don't use cheap padlocks.
