Trip south was OK. I didn't leave until about 0830, so the first event was pretty much over. We got 2 or so inches of powder. We'll see what ths afternoon brings...
Roads were, for the most part, clear...maybe a bit slushy in spots.
I'm at the sister plant in Manchester, CT. There's a meeting in about 15 minutes...then check in the hotel

Currently 32 and no snow falling. Looks like anywhere from 12-14 inches fell last night. Heavy wet stuff that my plow wouldn't touch. So thankful for the rear blower.
New rider with blower at the apartment house did fine. No cab makes me miss my tractor though. Brrrrrrrrrrrr.
Possibly another foot tonight, sure wish the ground was frozen.
Decided to take the day off from work today.
Stay safe everyone.

Wow, I decided to stay off computers (just some facebook browsing on phone) while I was on vacation. Lots happened in last week on TBN, hope everyone is recovered from Thanksgiving.

The whole family (kids and grandkids) were here for Thanksgiving (13 of us)..My wife decided that we were having ham instead of turkey (everyone really liked it). Way too much food, but leftovers have been great.

Our heating stove has had a couple of hiccups where it turns off (pilot out). First was last Wednesday morning, we woke up to cold house (60F), the wind was blowing up to 30mph out of north so figured somehow the wind caused the pilot to go out, but it happened again this morning with no wind. I have to open the front and manually light the pilot. It seems the pilot takes longer to heat the thermocouple that keeps it on, but seemed to work fine after that, except while the house was still cold, it went out again, so it went out with burner on this time, likely did it the other two times also, but we were not in room so did not know. I will have to troubleshoot that later today if I get time. We replaced the thermocouple last year and it has been working fine. I wonder if the over temp sensor is faulty and shutting the stove down..

Kids had fun planning and shopping, some of them went to Frozen 2 Saturday, some got nails done, I drove my wife to a couple of stops, then bought new tool chest at lowes. I've been wanting a larger one to consolidate from several smaller ones. Unloaded with forks on tractor, still need to assemble (handle and castors).

I want to change my radio in my truck to one that has big screen for backup camera. My current setup has backup camera view in rear view mirror and it is too small to do any good. I was going to swap the system I have now to one with big screen, but OEM would cost $1500 plus, I am thinking I will go with after market that supports current functions (like steering wheel controls, etc) but also includes Apple Carplay and Android Auto. There are some reasonable priced ones, but I want to make sure I get the backup camera view I want most of all...

Stay safe, prayers for all in need.

Checking In:

Along with the snow the temperature was essentially stuck in the mid 20ºF's all night into this morning; today's high is the current 29ºF presently and light snow continues to fall. This was heavy snow to shovel; my muscle groups will be complaining later. :( The tractor's front tires held up to the strain of snow management. Tomorrow Im going to get replacements.

Check- Thanks for sharing pics of your snow machine.

Bruce- Nice lights.

Eric- Nice picture.

"...Thomas probably more of the same but the sustained blocking over Greenland which is one part needed to keep the cold in may be lacking again this year"- Buppies. I agree and that static high pressure centered off FL keeps throwing Gulf warmth and moisture up towards the NE does not help.

Bill- Good luck with the water heater project.

Ramman- I am happy to read your first plow went without a hitch and your Wife got a snow day today.

Randy- I am happy to read that you only sustained minor injuries from your fall.

Phil- I had similar weather as yours. I got a compacted 12" with storm #1 when sleet started to briefly mix in with the snow. It's possible that I could see up to another 1', but I doubt that I'll see that much; realistically ~ maybe 5" - 6"

I hope that everyone has a decent day today, and everyone weather impacted weathers the storm without "issues".

My + thoughts and prayers.

Hawkeye, check out Crutchfield.com for their recommendations. Super company but price check before buying. If you need advice,
they are the ones to go to plus they sell the custom install kits.

scheduled three middle ear injections of steroids and lidocaine, which of course had to be "compounded" so that doubles the price...and I pay the drug cost but
the procedure is covered by Medicare. Ok, 125 bucks to reduce the roaring in my ear? Such a deal... Starting last week of the month for three weeks. Just like kids, little tube put in eardrum. I can do this. I told him to dump some CBD in there too, and he laughed, and said that likely is in tests now.

clearing up but still wet out side, too wet to blow leaves, so this afternoon I have three kinds of muffins to bake for the food pantry volunteers.
Two of them are new mixes so good thing QC is on the job...first one goes to the baker.

Randy, sorry you took a dive. Keep on trucking...
maybe a cane for a little while? I see a lot of folks with all kinds of canes, some clearly for what if's.
Good whacker when you need one...

Jay, oh my I bet you were cold when you came in. And that cold seat. I feel for you brother...
as I'm sitting with a little electric heater baking my feet and legs.
They make DC powered electric seat pads that plug into your cigarette/power outlet on the tractor.
Talk to Santa about that.

J- that is good before/after documentation of the storm’s effect in your area . We had considerable rain here yesterday afternoon and evening. Estimated at about 3/4”. It stopped by bedtime. Today has been gray/cloudy, very windy, and about 35-39 F.

"They make DC powered electric seat pads that plug into your cigarette/power outlet on the tractor. Talk to Santa about that."- Drew mood luck with the ear injections. I may have to talk to Mra. Claus about that heated seat pad. In my snowmobile suit i was pretty warm with today's temps; but an electric seat pad would come in handy when I starts to get really cold around here.

Frank- Thanks. It was still dark with the "before" pic. This weather system was really interesting in the way it tracked across the CONUS and then started interacting with the secondary low pressure system.

The ProMets and Meteo-Brainiacs at the weather site that I frequent have been gong nuts for over a week with this storm. The thread pertaining to just this system had ~ 3K posts and +120K views and is still going strong. The various weather model runs really accurately reflected what happened here in MA as reported by Phil and I.

I think I'll be having medicinal strength martinis tonight. :(;)

What did you get Western MA? I got about 18-20in. Not sure how west you are I’m closer to Worcester.

Woke up this morning to about 13" of snow (well at 8 AM when I measured it) got about 3 "more before I started plowing and a bit over an inch while plowing;
so around 17" of total snow fall a little bit of sleet while I was out.

The snow fall amounts up here where all over the place just 15 miles was making a foot difference.

Time to put my feet up and enjoy the heat rolling off the coal insert,
the way to do supplemental heat, no cutting, no spliting, no insects, dump a 40# bag into a 5 gallon bucket,
shake the grates down and coal take out an ash pan and dump it. Once a day :)

   / Good morning!!!! #102,953
Ramman- So far I measured 12" of compacted snow early this AM when some sleet started mixing in. It looks like I have another 1" since I plowed, it's snowing presently; and I anticipate another 3" - 4" with Round #2 as this storm's comma head wraps up off the coast of MA/ME.

"... The snow fall amounts up here where all over the place just 15 miles was making a foot difference."- Lou. I agree about the banding. A lot of ProMets looked pretty silly progging this system. My wood stove feels real good right now.

Has that been pretty accurate? I have tried several forecasts but with my elevation they seem to always be off by a few inches. But at the same time I’m in the snow belt and get snow if I sneeze

The Worcester Highlands and the Berkshire Hilltowns get the benefit of elevation dependent snow. I also benefit from Lake Effect snow when the winds are blowing from the right direction. Cummington, MA is not on a lot of MA maps. We are essentially 24 miles from Northampton, Pittsfield, and Greenfield. My driveway sits at 1380' elevation.

I just started using those strip charts and have been pretty pleased with the accuracy so far. The Accuweather Pro is essentially real time and I am watching that map and the SPC Meso for shrinkage/dissipation. I think the NWS is overdoing the accumulations for western MA, but not the Worcester area with this map, but NWS/Boston-Norton have been pretty reliable. Their posted discussion is not reflected in that map.

No kidding I will definitely be looking into them! My driveway is 1237 for elevation. I find it funny Worcester calculates the elevation at the regional airport. And that is only about 650 to 700 feet.

Did a little shopping online. Got Microsoft office $40 off at Costco. No outstanding deals, until I saw a queen memory foam mattress for $138. Same brand we have bought before and liked. So now I’m gonna convert the guest room to a queen bed.

Went to Costco. Walking to back of store and back wore out my legs and made my feet hurt.

Just saw 3 more deer run across the field.

I spent a couple hours on their site last weekend.. It is either get one from them or spend hours trying to figure out the wiring and interface to the adapters (either PAC or IData). I will need to make choice today if I want Cyber Monday deals (I didn't see date on sale at Crutchfield). I may wait until spring too, but my wife wants me to get a bigger screen for backup camera. The rest is just extras. I would put a standalone unit in if it was just for towing, but it is very nice for backing up in parking lots and such.. She has the big screen on her Tahoe and loves it.

Ramman- NWS/Boston-Norton's current data for my area comes from Pittsfield RA which is 34 miles away and at a much lower elevation, but that NWS office's ProMets are really good. I use the local Cummington Safety Complex's data (WeatherUnderground) which is 1.5 miles away and 500' lower in elevation. Accuweather taps Otis AF for my local data.

I may be doing you a serious disservice: Forecast Map Wall WX Disco | Social Scientific Weather Community

I forgot who, but someone here directed me to the hamster if I remember correctly

It's a slippery slope. It's too late for me.
