Here’s a pic of using pallets to move a lathe

And a CHEP pallet I reinforced to move my power hammer around while rebuilding.

Pallets used for tire storage

Fire starter! Put a couple of pallets under a brush pile, stuff a bunch of crumpled newspapers inside, one match does it. No starter fluids required. Pallets for roofing shingles work great. All thin softwood slats.

I save the good solid oak HD pallets for storing implements on pallet racks.

only problem w/the burn method is that it leaves hardware behind that will easily work into tires, etc. i've used pallets for years for temp exterior storage, but if left too long on the ground, same problem, nails on the ground. i've abandoned that method now, can't afford a puncture in one of my rear loaded tires on the M8540 not worth it
but some creative ideas on this thread

Silly me - I thought pallets belonged in fields! :rotfl::stirthepot:

For firewood I find IBC totes are far superior to pallets. But my tractor has the lift capacity to handle them.

Pallets and/or HF dollies are used for all my attachments.

Me too!

I buy fertilizer on a skid/pallet for easy one man handling. When building my shop, I put a pallet on the forks and lifted the 30' wide trusses and a shop builder up to the 12' mounting position. I store hay on them outside to keep it off the ground. I helped a neighbor put in a "bridge" of 3 ea. 30'x2' horns (steel culverts). The forks did a beautiful job of handling those cumbersome critters; picking them up, transporting, and dropping in exactly the intended place.....then pop them off (Bobcat quick hitches) put the bucket on and did the fill and spreading operation.

I think there's a thread about pallets in fields somewhere on TBN. I could post a link

TnAndy... you've inspired me to make a pallet-based wood-chip(per) receptacle, somewhat based off of your FEL firewood hauler.

I've already completed the dimensional calculations and bought the plywood/wood and screws to build it. I should be able to knock it up this week and will post a couple of pics.

Few things I've learned. New pallets break apart easiest. It's also easier to use a heavy headed hammer to take them apart vsversus prying them. There are a lot of plywood topped pallets, they are the best! Pallets will eventually compost. The nails do not. I can take a standard pallet apart in about 45 minutes, keeping all nails, and usually saving all of the wood.

Scored big time last winter and got twenty 4x8 pallets topped with 3/4" plywood! Project coming soon!!

Yep, be sure to post some pics. You're going to use it for wood chips ?

I built some storage bunkers for compost (barn/chicken house cleanout) and chipped waste from my sawmill.....you can pile up a whole lot of chips in short order !

Because my wood shed is too far to carry armfuls. I built a pallet with casters and sides with fencing. Now i just bring over with the tractor and wheel it into the basement.

Yep. I only have to deal with branches and my chipper is a small, but robust, 'garden type'. It does the job but only has a small basket to collect... a 'pain in the arse' when there's a fair bit to do.

It's a top-loader and fires the chips out of the bottom. So the plan is to aim the chips into the collector-pallet, then dump/spread the chips to various places on the property that require it.

My loafing shed was made out of pallets some 4x4s and roofing metal.

Pallet uses:
Fast unloading after coming home from a shopping trip (especially when it's a large quantity, or large/heavy stuff - tend to put a pallet in the back of my truck for this purpose when going to buy such things),
work platform/impromptu scaffolding for low heights (e.g. not much more than truck bed height),
portable toolbox/long handled garden tool rack (haven't gotten to building either of those two just yet, but it's planned)
platform for moving planted pots (much like a carry all)
a spacer between the wheel wells in my truck bed so I can transport objects that won't fit between the wheel wells
storage of implements (mostly those where accessing them or other items requires shuffling things around)

Pallet fork uses (not already covered elsewhere or inherent to the designed purpose):
impromptu work bench (used for mower blade sharpening in picture) 1117191257.jpg
lifting partially assembled carport (pre-lift in picture) for final assembly 1012171223.jpg
light weight extended reach lifting either with a strap on the forks directly or extending the fork tines with a piece of lumber/pipe that's securely fastened to the tine(s) ...while I don't have a picture as part of that carport assembly I also used the 4x4s as extended tines to lift/hold some of the other pieces for assembly

interesting thread!!

I just picked up some plastic pallets so I can set landscaping supplies on them that might not be used for a year or two. they seem to hold a fair amount of weight too.

245 bricks from first load stacked nicely on one my plastic pallets.jpgBricks piled on two plastic pallets in my backyard now Nov. 2019.jpg

I used one as the base for my carryall. Then put walls on 3 sides and fold-down back panels.
