Which trailer to buy?

Yep. I have an 18’. Go 22’, if possible. It’s amazing how often stuff hangs off the back of the 18’.

I bought 20'
My Kubota L48 hoe rests neatly on the beaver tail, and the loader bucket sits curled over the trailer front mounted winch.
I would have preferred to go longer, to 22', or even 24', but the 20' deck length is the maximum that would permit storage in my building, of another tractor, or my Jeep, ahead of the trailer.
I store EVERYTHING inside!

You can always hang the bucket over the front rail. Funny how everyone puts their tractors on forward. When I picked mine up at the dealer they loaded it backwards. I asked about that and they said that is how they load them. If I had my JD 6 foot brushhog on it and backed the tractor onto the trailer I would have lots of room if the deck was lifted up. I'd like to get an 18' but a 20' would also do. I definitely do not want a 22 footer.

If I position my tractor on my 18’ trailer with the bucket over the front rail there is too much you get weight and gives a tougher ride. If I back my tractor on there isn’t enough tongue weight and I will need new shorts. I have a 40 horse which really needs a 22 ft trailer but I bought an 18’. If I had a subcompact tractor and no other equipment an 18’ would be great. When I do buy again it will be a 22’ 14k GN for my needs. Your trailer can be too short. Unless you have specific storage requirements or have to maneuver in some really small spaces you can never have trailer this is too large. Also your axle capacity can never be too large.

I found a good deal on a Hudson 18 foot 10K trailer for $1600.00 yesterday. It came home with me. If I need a bigger trailer I can always recoup my money on this one to buy a bigger one.

Nice. I’ve been looking for a 10 or 14k trailer for a while and I haven’t found anything that’s not beat to crap and almost retail price. Come spring time and I have more use for one I’ll probably buy a new one.

And check the date code on the tires. Trailer tires have a 7 yr (if they last that long) service life. If they are over 7 yrs old, you should replace them and trailer tires are expensive! My FIL bought a new 14' 7000# trailer 18 months ago and it came with used tires. They need replacing now and $320 was the cheapest price (these are smaller tires) I can find and that didn't include balancing. The spring lifted ramp system can be added at any time.

I didn't know this. I bought my trailer brand new in 2004 and it has the original tires on it. The tread still looks brand new on them. Sometimes it sits for months at a time, other times I'm pulling it every day for weeks at a time. Longest I ever go is probably 30 miles round trip.

All tires made with rubber have a 7 year recommended use life. As the guys from the Goodyear plant like to say, “Our products rot while sitting in the shelf”.

The biggest issue is the tires often look fine, but are not performing. Most people don’t notice until a massive failure.
