Flail Mower Let's talk flail mowers

Hi flail mower nation! it has been a while since my last post and I just picked up another flail mower with 2 Y knives per station and 106 stations, 212 total knives. It is an older Matthews Company mower 8800 FMO that I picked up for a reasonable price. My question is-can I not fill in all the stations and leave a row out of production. If I do that I am guessing that I will also have to leave two rows open to balance the drum. Is this crazy talk or can I do this and not harm the mower? I am wondering who has hangers, springs, washers and nuts for this application. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello blitzen,

It is good hearing from you, You can purchase parts for your flail mower from any Mathews farm equipment dealer.

If your flail mower has four rows of mounting stations you can remove two opposing rows of knives and use it but
the mowing job it leaves will require that you mow at 90 degrees to finish the job to clip all the sod and get a good mowing job.

The Mathews company is still in Crystal Lake, Illinois and they have a dealer network that is nation wide.

Thanks Leon for such a quick reply! Flailmaster recommends their fm-7 blade I'm wondering if a heavier blade, same dimensions,
be of any advantage?

Hello everyone,

I haven't posted here in some time but many of you call on me for parts. I wanted to let you know that National Parts - Flail Master will be closing our doors very soon. The company announced on Friday of last week we were to start liquidating our inventory to close the business. I know this was a very difficult decision for the owner of the company as we have been in business for almost 55 years. His father started this company in his garage all those years ago. This saddens me too as I have come to love my work and all of the folks who have trusted me over the past several years to help maintain your machines. If you are looking to stock up on any parts for your flail - now is the time. We have sold so much of our inventory in just a few short days. Two parts in particular I know are very hard to come by at a decent price are the Ford 220398 single piece blade and the hanger 222157. Pricing online is crazy.

Anyhow, I understand if the post needs to be removed due to the nature of "business" it may be outside the rules. I just wanted to be certain to give everyone a heads up before we close for good.

& I want to say thank you to everyone who has done business with us over the years. We are grateful. I hope you all a blessed future.

Sincerely,
Carrie

Blitzen,

We do still have a limited supply of FM-7 blades (the blade that started our company) in stock.

That's a huge bummer for many of us on this page. I'm just glad I now have an Alamo as those are the easiest parts to find. You were helpful in getting parts for my Ford 917, not to mention the most economical. On that note, I sent a PM with a part request before you close.

Honestly, I know I am such a girl but it breaks my heart. I love this company and all we stand for too.

Dang. I saw liquidation posts on FB since I'm pretty close geographically but I was hoping it was an overstock situation or something like that.

Say it ain't so !! In the few years I have been running a flail mower, FlailMaster has been THE premiere source for parts across the board for all brands.

Who will pick up the slack ? That has to be a fairly large business hunk.

Flailmaster closing down isn't the end of the world. It's disheartening to anyone who has been a customer and surely to anyone employed there. Maybe they couldn't find a buyer. When there is a need someone will fill it.
