Ethanol Free Gas

   / Ethanol Free Gas #21
Yesterday I was in one of Sacramento's main shops for chainsaws, generators, landscaping equipment. They had ethanol free gas in sealed 5 gal cans for $80. I mentioned I had found it at Redwood Valley pumped out of a drum for about $7 a gallon. They said they tried to get that kind of a setup too, but so far haven't been able to.

Yikes.... I paid $3.09 a gallon today for Non E 91 octane..

There’s a phone app.

The phone app I use is "Gas Guru" but does not do non-ethanol fuel. I only see one app for non-ethanol fuel and it has a rating of poor.

Pure gas has an app.

I had never even tried their map page. It's weird, since it shows the map briefly, before switching to the error page. Fortunately, their text list by state is working.

I have two ethanol free stations within 5 miles of my house. I only use it for the chainsaw, leaf blower, string trimmer, four wheelers, snowmobile and Harley. I tried it in my car but the cost of it does not justify buying it, it's more than a dollar more than premium. I do get about 10% better mileage but still not worth it.

It's labeled as "Clear" and looks like water.

We have 5 ethenol free station near me.....hope to stay that way. Since I switched to it, no more engine problems. I just brought out the small snow blower unit and topped off fuel, pushed prime 3 times, and it started with first try after 6 months of sitting.

The map would be nice but I also only use ethanol free on my small engines so As long as I know where they are around my place, I am good to go. We seem to have quite a few, I do not know if that is because we are not a corn state and it is not (as) required or what. Do they have ethanol gas in Alaska?

Only use E0 in my boats, this way there is no need for stable additives. On the other side, there are no E0 places near me other then the marina's to even get it

Still worth adding Stabil or similar if the engine sits for any significant length of time without being used, but if it's been working for you so far, I guess you are in good shape.

I don't know KY well, but Pure-Gas.org shows 114 stations in KY selling E0 gas.

I can find E0, there just several miles out of the way. Also since there hasn't been any issues ever (cars, chain saw, lawn mower), why pay more for the same thing.

then keep doing what you are doing, for those of us who have had "gas tank rot" we will invest a little $ so save a lot of :mur:

I tried E10 in my Honda once. It never used the tank before the injectors got clogged. I have a steep hill on the road before we get home and it struggled to get up it. A bottle of injector cleaner soon fixed it. Never again. Only idiots would use that stuff.

All we have is E10. Put 351k miles and 150k miles on 2 Honda’s. Never an issue. People who have no choice are not idiots.

As a old boater which has seen the issues with ethanol in old motors deteriorating hoses and other rubber parts, have seen no issues with modern motors. If there were actual documented issues with E10 then there would be a major uproar over the world about it. Millions of motors running with E10, and if there were actual issues related back to the fuel, there would be no escape.

Its opinions, read a similar post about a specific (no names) synthetic oil. Poster said he changed his oil to the specific oil and instantly noticed it was quiter, and also noticed higher performance and fuel economy.

So when I read another say something to cover all aspects instantly and suggest all others are unable to see the sky is blue, I just ignore and smile

the e10 has never hurt my car or any motor that doesn't sit unused for a long time... at least for me. but it was eating up things like my chain saws, snow blowers, etc. i even used marine grade stable to no avail. since swapping all small motors to ethanol free, no more issues. I just recently purchased a brand new gas weed blower and the instructions specifically state i HAVE to use approved 50:1 oil that protects against ethanol, and i cannot use anything above e10. So if a brand new motor wont allow e15 or e20, what will happen to older engines if the stupid government forces e15 or higher fuel

I think most people agree ( from what I have read anyways) that e10 seems ok in cars, it is the small engine segment that seems to not like/tolerate any alcohol
