Got tired of cleaning soot off FEL from engine exhaust stream. Made the following mod:

Cut off about 1.5" of existing exhaust pipe (after removing spark arrester @ end);
Cut down a standard 1 1/4 EMT prebend conduit as necessary;
Drill tap a couple of new holes. Problem solved.

Total cost: $7.50 (beats the $95 version available on the net).

Not concerned about it stirring up a lot of dust ?

Bill rob: it’s not really that close to the ground. Just tested it. On semi hard pack nothing on powder top soil it does throw out some dust between the back of the FEL and in front of my front tire. But in powder the rest of the tractor is kicking up dust as well. I suppose I could add a real short 45 degree bend or turn the pipe up a but more. I’ll post if I change it. I could also add an A/C cab... :thumbsup:

Decided to use the full length of the 1 1/4" EMT pre-bend 90 degree fitting. Needed to add another 5 degrees of bend or so, but now it blows the exhaust nicely above the ground between the FEL and in front of the front tire. :thumbsup:

I wonder if that could increase the temperature of air going through the radiator and affect engine temps.

with that added extension i would be concerned about interference w/debris & branches, etc esp w/fel raised

Diesel - the air flow is behind the radiator grill and blows past it nicely.

BB - Good point. The 1/4 steel bracket and clamp make it extremely strong though. I specially don’t have a lot of wooded areas where I tractor, but if I did I would have designed it differently for sure. Again, good point.

Be happy you have soot versus the issues the Tier 4 final engines have. I'll take visible particulates (soot) over all the emissions junk anyday.

I had the same problem,$5.00 at the local muffler shop for the whole shebang! It does kick up some dust but that is easier to clean off than soot. I finally adjusted the exhaust outboard about 45 degrees.

Very nice. Any (exhaust) problems while using backhoe?

Diesel - the air flow is behind the radiator grill and blows past it nicely.

As you know heat rises and may also warm your hydraulic fluid and hydro transmission.

Depending on where you live that could be a issue or maybe even a benefit in really cold areas.

Not saying its wrong or bad rather something to monitor to see if it has an effect or not.

Fixed mine too, now just have to watch for low limbs, the canopy is about the same height.

Interesting thread; I have never had any exhaust problem. Granted mine is tier 4, but look how it flows. Exhaust goes right in front of the tire and behind the FEL.

Try searching eBay for "silicone turbo hose coupler"

it will come up with all sorts of hoses, straight and bent, that can be used to extend the exhaust, yes, they can withstand the heat,,
Many cost less than buying the same thing in steel,

The BIG benefit is that if you hit something, the silicone will bend like rubber, and flip right back to original shape,,

Many people have ordered a size that is a little tight,, then you do not even need a clamp,, :thumbsup:

If I were doing it, I would probably end the extension with one of the reducers that would bell out at the end,,
The tractor would look like a kids Cummins powered Dodge pickup,,, :laughing:
